I am making a cat model, and before I start I would like to know if there is a way to add fur onto the mesh in 3D max 6 and have it look realistic as I plan on animating it.

All help apretiated.

3ds max doesn't have a hair/fur generator by standard. You can get hairfx tho. Its a great tool for that. But do you need it? What kind of a cat is it? if its a slick cat then you can get away, and should also get away with a shader and a good texture. Take Donkey from Shrek for instance. His fur is not simulated, its a shader. I think only his mane is fur/hair simulated.

If your a student, you can get an educational discount on shag hair. I got the entire turbo toolkit 2 for $99!!! That has 10 different expensive plugins in it too. I got my software from academicsuperstore.com. There is one rule though....If you buy software at an educational discount, you can't sell anything you make.

lol...I just realized I sound like I'm doing a sales pitch.:D
