Hi everyone. As im new i thought i would ask the more complicated questions to you brainy people first, hope you can help.

I have searched the endless sea of the internet and have found nothing on how to create really cool holographic effects within 3ds max 6. Im trying to reproduce a piece of uni work, all i need is a tutorial to show how i can make a 3d object look like hologrphic projection from a crystal or orb.

Can anyone write a tutorial or knows of one that could help me?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ;-)

You could use a plane with an opacity map to block out the non-holographic parts and make the holographic parts semi-transparent...use some self illumination and diffuse color, sounds like a good start to me at least.

Awesome Thanks alot people! The effect im trying to get is the hologram interfaces and objects in Final Fantasy (the spirits within). Any ideas, iv simply tried transparencies and falloff and cant get it looking just right. If anyone has mastered this effect please teach me how and post a piece of work to prove it.

I have attached this screenshot from the movie to describe what im on about:
