Cameras and lenses

Does anyone know of a guide explaining the benefits/ uses of various lenses on 3d cameras. Is this just used to composite accurately or can it be used to create stylish effects?

For example, could a 72mm lens give a more 'cinematic' view than a 35mm?

Nomal lense: 50mm
Wide lense: <50mm
Tele lense: >50mm

If you use wide lense, your scene more perspective
If you use tele lense, your scene more parallel
