hey i am working on an assignment at uni using 3ds max 6. i have created a rectangle shape then i created another rectangle and converted to editable spline, then manipulated it a bit. then i use loft with the first rectangle already selected and click on the small spline i created. i do this with instance selected. now when i go into the created loft and click subobject shape it wont let me manipulate the shape??? why... what settings are there that could be effecting this?
another problem i was having was when i created a rectangle shape and then i wanted to change it to editable poly, i then extrude it and all is fine... but when i look underneath the bottom poly is missing and its one big hole...??
newbie help please...

hey... yeah its a bit hard to explain... im not sure that a screenshot is going to make much of a diff... im basically following this tutorial with the chair and having 2 problems...
1. http://67.15.36.49/team/tutorials/hugechair/chair3_01.asp on step 70 i cant change the loft shape sub object even though i did it as an instance?? ive been following this tutorial to the letter as far as i know... is there another setting that could be stuffing me up?
2. http://67.15.36.49/team/tutorials/hugechair/chair3_02.asp on step 73 when i make the copy of the rectangle splin and then convert to editable poly and extrude. then if i look underneath the chair that poly i extruded is hollow on the bottom... so basically it is fine from top view but from bottom view you cant see anything??
im using 3dsmax6

if you create a rectangle shape spline... how do you then convert that into a box with all six sides?

Well done! i dont know if this is the solution to your particluar problem but you could convert spline to editable poly then use face extrude from the stack...
hope it helps...;)

step 73 is a box primitive. It`s a seperate object from the extruded rectangle spline that you did in step 70.

i ended up figuring it out... the problem i was having was that i couldnt see the spline in the actuall loft and i was simply clicking on the seperate spline which did nothing... the other prblem was that i was using the extrude tool on the base... when i was supposed to use the extrude modifier on the spline...
