extruding splines makes 2d plane instead of 3dshape

this only seems to ever happen when im attaching multiple splines togetheer...Anyone know whats happening?

mmm dont really know why it does that but a solution might be:

seperate all splines into seperate objects, select all of them, then apply the extrude mod (that way the mod wil be instanced and control all the splines making changes easier)
