hey i am currently going through this tutorial but i am stuck on a bit... http://67.15.36.49/team/Tutorials/benmathis/benmathis_body_1.asp

i have created the arm,leg and torso... but i cant now weld the vertexs to join the arm leg and torso together... i am working with them as editable poly's, im assuming thats what they were meant to be? i have attached them so they are all under one editable poly... but i just cant connect/weld the vertexs so that everything is joined...

help please...

Check the threshold value for the welding tool, if your vertices are too separated they may not weld. Be careful not to set too high a threshold or youīll get odd results. Also you may try the target weld tool, right click on the viewport (Iīm asuming you use Max) and from the contextual menu select "Target weld", once activated select a vertex and then the vertex you want it to be welded too, repeat untill youīre done.

hey... yes i am using max...

i have tried what you said and it wont work... when i change the threshold it doesnt change the before and after? and if i try to use the target weld that wont work either... when i use the target weld it will let me weld a vertex on the arm to another vertex on the arm but it wont let me weld a vertex on the arm and then jump across to another vertex on the torso to ultimately join the arm to the torso..?? why?

ahh no matter i figured out what i was doing wrong...

another question though..

example if you have an editable poly cube and you cut an edge diagonally from the top point to the other bottom point... so you know have a face with two polygons... how do you get rid of the edge and change it back to one polygon? (ps. without using the ctrl-x... ie. repairing it manually)

Let me guess, you didnīt attach the parts togheter? :p

It happens at first...

As for your last question, there is a max-script function (included in the third CD I think) that do just that, but usually I donīt bother with that and do the thing manually.

To remove en edge in edit poly mode just select it and press backspace. if you press delete you delete it and the faces around it. Backspace will keep the faces but not the edge :)

cheers... but what about when you want to remove an edge and your dealing with an editable mesh? i tried the backspace thing and it doesnt do anything and i cant see a remove button...?
