ETERNITY: A Half life 2 mod

Ok, welcome to this thread, if you choose to stay you will be here for a while.

The spark in the dark:

I have always want to make the ultimate RPG, I mean fable failed, baldures gate dark alliance/2 was shoit (both on a customizable basis and thin/weak storylines). So I thought, what was missing from both of these games?

then it struck me:

In both games, there was a sparse number of items, ie only a few types of armour, a couple of types of swords to be got and axes and maces and stuff. Then there comes the storylines: I wont even go there.

AH "but what about morrowind" I hear you say.

I agree, to me morrowind was and still is the best rpg apart from the first two baldures gates ever made. (Im talking about standalone games of course).

But there was one fatal down fall in morrowind: THE UPMOST LACK OF ANY INTERESTING CUT SCENES, GRAPHICAL MOMENTS OR SENSE OF ACHEIVEMENT WHEN QUESTS WERE COMPLETED!!!

and this brings me back to my idea:

We have already established that MY rpg will need:

>A vast item/ weapon/ armour/ interaction collection
>A GOOD STORYLINE
>Some cut scene and graphic effects to biwilder and amaze.

So what else?

Well the obvious really:
game models, game engines, animations textures, well you know, The general who har thats normally in a game.oh yeh and programmers!

SO hears what I am really asking for:

For the main part, it will be a mod. I am not disputing that.

So first of all I am looking for information:
I need to know what decent engines there are capable of handling such game options stated above.

Then the building blocks of the game: A storyline, Concept art, game thinkouts (what the game will comprise of)

Then programmers, keep veiwing this thread for info on the engine and language.

Then as ever: modelers, texture artists, sound peeps, skinners, animators and the rest.

OH and it will be called Eternity, that is unless anyone can come up with a better name.

This is what the game at its most basic and ideas thrown level will be:

Eternity

Game features

Selectable races: Human, Elf, Half Ork, Half Elf, Dwarf.
Each race has there own attribute modifiers.

Attributes:

Strength, Skill, Intelligence, Grace
Will have use of Hit Points and Mana/will points for Health and spell abilities.

Skills

A large skill database, each skill actually having a use in the game that is useful

Classes

Adept, Warrior, Thief, Paladin, wizard

Large equipment database

Including real life items such as cups bowls, etc


Game dynamics

A very large game world

Four big cities
10 large towns
8 villages
Countless farm houses

Terrain ranging from flat lands to hills to mountains
Sensational surroundings such as giant forests and glades, castles, ( Im thinking lord of the rings like)

For gods sake beautiful textures

Good quality game models, i.e. perhaps 1800-2000 polies each (obviously depending on what It is)

MONSTER< MONSTER MONSTERS!

Lots of weird and wonderful monsters such as Orks, goblins, Hob goblins, constructs. You name it, it’s gonna be in it.
Use of sensational monsters like giants and the like.

We will use the HL2 engine
