hey im pretty new to this but i am trying to use texporter to texture something, but when i go to pick object and it generates the unwrapped map it seems to be cutting off the sides? when i go into edit uvw map it is fine...

i assume you mean that the texported image has areas of the mesh missing??? if thats the case, try clicking the "backface cull" checkbox in the texporter rollout. it should fill in the blanks.
(for future reference, texporter will leave these blank bits of mesh because the uvw's are probably flipped after you've unwrapped them)

try flipping the sections in the uvw map that didnt show up either horiz or vert
