View Full Version : adding more polygons when you render in 3dmax

Hi

Sorry for this question... it might be dumb or something. But i just want to know it...
Can you make a low poly character, and then give it more polygons when you render it?
I now use smooth mesh when i want to do that. but that doesnt really work that great :P

Hope someone can help :D

I think what u are looking for is meshsmooth or if u are using max.v7 u could also use supersmooth.
U will have to build your mesh somewhat different for this to work, so simply to apply a meshsmooth modifier to a low poly mesh will probably not give u a perfect result.

just adding to what H2O said - with the meshsmooth modifier, you can set render iterations. this will keep the mesh simple while it's in the scene, and add meshsmooth at render time.
