Happy New Years:)

It's been a while since I've posted something or been to the forum.
Here's a new character that I've been working on for about a week. Need to tweak the hat a little more underneath on the right side. Think I'm done textureing the head, still playing with the textures on the clothing.
Any suggestions for a background?

Looking very nice as always rubberduck. I think maybe some Roman pillars or some structure like that.

a camp in a desert with a sandstorm and a camel smt like downup said
or it could also have like a renaissance structure for the background while the sun is rising from the far end

Thanks guys:)

I think I'm going for the pillars and here's what I've done sofar on them. Still need to finish up the top section before I mirror it.

Downup: Sorry, no sandstorm or camel this time;)

Here's a test render....is the light glow too yellow?

Very nice! I really like the clothing, especially the nice soft folds around the neck.

I think I'd make the hat's color a little more muted and darker, that might pop her face out a little more. I'd also bring the horizon line down lower. Not sure about the light glow; it does look a little yellow...

It's a very nice picture though, I'm looking forward to seeing it develop!

The model+texturing is great..Lighting is good..The yellow light looks ok to me..What bothers me is the composition. The lady must move to the top of the frame a bit..Also the BG is too empty..Try working more on the composition.

hello ducky !!

imo you should change the picture ratio for something like this :)
it would make some charisma to your pict .

Hey I love the texturing you made
Its very good

Thanks guys!:)

I'll work some more on the composition and colors too, I like your suggestion too Guerilla.
I may post another render later, I spend most of yesterday creating a design for a horse arena(for a fairground) with a metal type roof, but I'm finishing that up today.

Hi rubberduck. Great project you have going here. The sand plains are perhaps a bit too grainy, the scarf could use a more wavy ripple (the extension behind her neck), and the overall lighting is a little unrealistic. Area shadows or a skylight should help with that :). The woman is very pretty though so good job with that. Keep us updated .

Oh ye, and The sky is strange, I suggest a flat color with a subtle gradient or carefully selected clouds, but that's just my opinion.

<Edit> If you get the chance, could you post the wires for that ionic column? It's real nice :).

Thanks buddy;) Changed several things, hope it's better, if it's worse please tell me, don't be shy;) Still haven't tweaked the scarf yet, but will.

Here's the render and a few wire screenshots of the column

Wires...

Well, the new render is good, but I think you took too much grain from the sand, now it just looks like butter :p. You should average the grain between your last two images. Also I think the lighting is still a bit flat. Are you using max? I like the trees tho. And as for the sky, I think it looks better, but if you can find a way to make those clouds look less flat it will look really good. Now if you're up for a challenge (and I don't have a clue how hard this will be), I think you should add some sort of dust particles flying around or something, and maybe some fog to simulate that the air is thick with debris. The fog probably won't be very hard, but the particles will, but if you can make it look really subtle I think it would be awesome :). Just to throw in some ideas :).

Thanks for those wires BTW :D.

i like the render with the palm trees. Minus the trees. I was thinking of the pillars in more of a old structure. Lighting could use some work. Try playing with the colors in post. may help a bit.

like so but half buried in sand.

Also I think the dunes could use more variation in the sand. Using a bump show the result of wind torn dunes.

Ok;) , I have redone the whole landscape/desert scene and I this is what it's going to look like, instead of wavy sand dunes.

Thanks for the ref images Goat;) I had tried earlier to put the column in the sand, half buried and I didn't like the way it looked, so I think I'll use it for another project.
I'm not sure if I should put the palmtrees back in the scene or not.

Phynius Gauge: I like the ideas about some sort of dust particles flying around and fog too.

Thanks for C&C's btw;)

The last picture, th one with th palm trees is not that good, because it changed the waman's face into a plastic, inexpressive something (the problem is ilumination or/and material)

The last landscape looks great R. I would take care now about that illumination. It was far too yellow in your previouse pic. A more light yellow, with more intensity would simulate your sun. Also a omni light, very dim, would help simulate the light bouncing from the sand onto your character.

Cavalera: I agree about what you're saying and I'll keep tweaking it;)

Avatar: Thanks;) That last one that was too yellow, I had 3 lights in the scene and 1 was a "glow" light, but I'm reworking the lights for this new landscape. Thanks for the tip with the omni light;)

I thought I would see what it would look like if I put a caravan in the background, in the distance, so I started this camel last night.
I still have alot of tweaking to do on him and it's only half a camel for now, haven't mirrored him yet;)

I guess you don't even have to mirror it or add more detail. As you will place it farr away and, hopfully will add a DOF to the scene, you won't need nothing but a siluete to express what you need. Great work nonetheless.

Thanks Avatar, I did mrrior it, or you would only see 2 legs on each camel:eek: ;) But anyways, first of all, sorry for the lack of respone and updates. I have been so busy that I have not had time to do personal projects.

Several other things has happened, I installed a new 160 GB harddrive and another ram module 512mb, so I now have 1.5 Gig of memory. Everything was running fine, but once in a while the computer would suddenly reboot by itself, no warning at all, it would also reboot every time I wanted to install something from a cd or burn a cd, (sometimes it would reboot before xp was finished loading, so first I thought it was one of those "reboot" virusses, but no, the computer was clean:???: Then I thought, bad ram, hmm, checked the ram with a program it was fine too:crazy: checked motherboard and so on look fine too.
But a week ago or so I remembered that there was a hot electrical smell coming from the case, but couldn't figure out what was wrong, so I came to the conclusion that my power supply in the case was going and put a new 500W baby in it, yeah and it's been fine since, no more reboots:D

But before all this happened I had downloaded some critical updates from Microsoft and things just started to go wrong, couldn't start most programs up(even after uninstalling the updates), don't you just love Microsoft:roll:
Tried to do a repair install of XP, didn't help, so I ended up doing a clean install of XP:grr: I lost a lot of files in the progress including this desert scene, so don't expect any more updates on this one, sorry. I'm almost finished ranting and raving:o sunday night I had the worst toothache in my life, couldn't fall asleep, that's how bad it hurt, so next day I was lucky to get into the dentist and he ended up pulling a wisdom tooth out, ok I'm done:eek: :)

ido: Thanks buddy;) I hope so too, well the computer is running fine now, the tooth is out and I'm just a little sore now, so it's all good, ecxept for loosing this scene and objects:grr: :) btw, it turned out that I had made a copy of the camel on the old drive:D

Downup: I didn't lie, I just wasn't sure about it and changed my mind, it happens;)

Moderators, it's ok with me if you decide to delete this thread, since there won't be anymore updates on it, it's up to you guys;)
