Seems when I turn on subdivision (meshsmooth), my edges get rounded. How do I keep my edges while still using meshsmooth? Thanks for any replies.

Two methods that I know of:
The most common is to chamfer all the edges that you want to keep sharp (used in car modeling especially).
The second is to use Crease, an option under the MeshSmooth modifier (maybe under NURMS in the Editable Poly list too). But I haven't used this enough to be familiar with it or to recommend it. Search the 3DS Max User Reference, and see what each thing does, and how it's described and all.
Hope this helps.

the only thing i can add to what little fish said is that witht he chamfer method, you still get "rounded" edges, just that the rounding is a lot tighter, giving the appearance of square edges,
when using te edge crease method the edges are just that, creased that is completely square, depending on what your desired out come is will dictate what method ou use, both methods are just as useful, but for different things.

This (http://www.onnovanbraam.com/index.php?m=tutorials&g=5-tech-1) explains using chamfer with lots of pretty pictures (/me needs them) and quite a good explanation.
