On 3d max 7 if i want to animate a biped, when i try using auto key the initial position isn't saved and if i use the set key and click the key button nothing is saved. Why?

are you using footstep animations?
are you still in the rigging/skinning pose?

if your doing to of these things then its pretty tough/impossible to keyframe.

any more questions just ask, ill see what i can do.

as said above, you can't set keys that way in figure or footstep mode. but even in freeform autokey won't set a key for the initial position and max' set key doesn't work at all on bipeds. biped has it's own way of creating keys: when you are in freeform mode, just look under "key info" on the motion tab (with part your biped selected. you can even set several types of keys, such as planted or sliding for feet. as always, more info to be found in the manual, just go look onder help > additional help.
