During rendering u get the option of using these codecs....(cinpak, Divx etc..)
I generally use cinepak.
What do these codecs do?
which one is more preferable?

They compress the movie. I don't like Cinepak that much. You should consider using Divx or Xvid.

I prefer rendering all frames as jpg's and then import them in a videoediting program, because if max crashes during rendering you won't have to start rendering from the start.

About that other problem of yours.
The codec might be the problem, just try out divx or xvid(make sure you set the encoding settings right before rendering).

Yes, like Yanik render all frames as jpg or tiff and turn it into avi or mpeg by using videoeditors because rendering in avi with compressors decreases the quality of the rendered frame.
Just to remind that you need to install Divx in order to use it as codec. Also the Divx needs to be installed in the computer you want the final avi to play.

I was gonna post it in another post .......
How do u render in premiere?
I`ve taken my files and put them up in proper sequence . he previews fine.
Now I weant a final output.
What to do?

Targa aka TGA is another filetype. I would recommend rendering your frames in 3dsmax out as jpg files because the output size will be a lot smaller.

To render something out just go to File-->Export--->Movie...

(if you didn't change the settings please push the settings button and than in the pop-up set the file type to microsoft AVI and in the video tab set the compresssor to your desired codec)

Makes sure you set up the settings correct before rendering.

I used to use Cinepak codec for my renderings( I use max 6).
However cause of the low quality of output (flickering etc) I tried Xvid n DivX.

In DivX I get no output at all.
I get this registration form and then It doesnt proceed beyond this.

In Xvid,
Prob 1 :Theres this quality bar 0-100 where 100=best.
But the bar is set at 0 .No matter what other settings I try the bar doesnt budege from 0.
However despite this, I do get a good output.
Prob 2 :Premiere and After effects cant read the xvid rendered file. I thought the file might have been corrupted so I rendered it again.Same thing again.
When i open it in Prem. or AE I get a blank file. Blank meaning I get black screen in the preview window.
However Premiere and AfterE can read a Cinepak rendered file.

so guys, whats up?
What am I doing wrong?
The cinepak and xvid rendering were both done at Default settings.

I just found out you can't import a jpg sequence in premiere. In the help file it says this:

Sequence formats:

AI, BMP/DIB/RLE, Filmstrip, animated GIF, PICT/PIC/PCT, TGA/ICB/VST/VDA, TIFF, PSD



1. I believe you can't import divx or xvid in premiere.

2. Why would you import the lossy divx or xvid file in premiere if you can import the unedited image sequence?

3. Render the frames out as bmp or tga in 3dsmax. Than import those bmp or tga files in premiere.
In 3dsmax: Do not render it out as a movie, only render it as a sequence of images.

I hope this thing is not ticking u off..........

cause I`ve got another problem.......

I rendered this max file as Tga , then tried to render it in Premi..
It went half way thru , then it aborted saying something like 'not enough disk size ....'
But the drive I was rendering it in has a lot of free space....?
So whats up now?

I'm not sure, but i think you need to increase your virtual memory amount.

1.Right click on my computer, than choose properties.

2.Click on the advanced tab, than click on the performance settings button.

3.One again click on the advanced tab than on the bottom you'll see your virtual memory settings. To edit it click on the button and increase it to something like 1024 mb.

If that doesn't solve it than i don't know.
