I'm just getting the hang 3d modeling but I'm not sure what is actually required to create good characters. For instances, If i am creating a character to thats just going to smile do I have to worry about teeth. Another question is cloths. If I dont forsee my model being nakid should I bother modeling him/her/it without cloths? I was hoping to get any feedback or similiar experience on these questions. Thanks!

for the teeth, i'd say it depends on what sort of smile you're doing....a big grin or a closed-mouth smile??? closed mouth you probably wouldn't really have to worry about.

for the body....well that would depend on if you wanted to try any sort of cloth simulation for the clothes. if not then you might not really need to bother modelling the whole body.

i have to say tho that I'd recommend modelling it all anyways. it's good practise after all, and if you decide to do more with the character later it should be handy :) for the character i'm working on just now (see link in my signature below) i've modelled teeth and the whole body.....but i don't yet know how much clothing is gonna be on the character and whether or not the mouth will be open for the final piece. actually i'm hoping to do facial and body animation for it with a bit of cloth simulation....so doing the whole lot is just a way of covering all bases :)
