i guess a lot of people here use mental ray for renderings, whats mental ray ? where can i get it ?

The specific image in mention is from MaYA's default software renderers..
Since V4.5 you were able to freely use MRay with MaYA; but since version 5.0 the MentalRay rendering engine has been integrated to MaYA without an extra effort.

Mental ray is sort of a render engine that deals with the radiostiy factor of render engines.

You have to see it like real light.. the way that light does not come ONLY from the light source but also comes from all around. Every object that light hits has an amount of luminosity acieved. So thats what radiosity is all about.
And this sort of gives a more photorealistic result.
