Super Noob Here Needs Help!!! Please!!!

I have got 3ds max 7 but have not yet managed to open anything because it says that the file format i am using is not supported, i have tried many file formats and all have failed if any one can help it would be much appreciated, or if you can e-mail me with help that would be great, my e-mail is car.modder@gmail.com

what file formats have you been using???
.max?
.3ds?
.lwo?
.scn?
.mb?
.etc .etc??? :p

you really want to make sure the stuff you're trying to open is in .max format. for other formats you'll need to import them (if you have the right import plugins i guess).
