3D Max 6 : using ink & paint with subobject materials

Hi,

I am new to the forums and have a question. Can you use he ink and paint material type within a subobject material type. I have set all the material ids ok on the material and on the selected polygons in my model. When i render all i get is black where ive applied the material.

you can use ink-n-paint with multi-sub object materials.

one thing you might want to check is the "ink control" settings. if the "mat ID" is on, you'll get ink lines between the different materials on the object....and depending on the "ink width" setting it could technically turn the whole model black (as could having "overlap", "outline" and "SmGroup" all checked).

so play around with those settings and see if that fixes the problem :)

wicked cheers. will have to try that after work. I did think it was something to do with those settings but was not sure what did what.

Am basically trying to get a cartoon effect or a cell shader one . Its the only way ive found to do it.
