i made a model and a uv map in 3ds max 7. in order to import it into the game im modeling for, i need to use a converter plugin that is only available for 3ds 4. i can import the model without any problems, but the uv map doesnt want work. is there any way to import the uv map with the model or without it?

You should be able to travel your works between versions backwards only if you haven't used newly introduced features in the modeling process.

You being able to import the model but not the mesh IS a situation though.

Maybe if you would export it first as a 3DS file than imported that into Max 4? Or have you tried that already?
I know it would sort of ruin things. But since you are going to use it for gaming I thought that the triangulation shouldn't be a problem.

the 3ds file doesn't have the uvw map on it. i haven't used any new features on it, unless 3ds max 7 some how uses different uv mapping.

I have always exported with UV's included.. but well now you say it. I think I hadn't ever exported from Max directly .. I have always used Okino's PolyTrans.

I have never used Max 7.. But it really doesn't register to me on HOW the Mapping could be diffrent.

I'll chek the documentations I have in hand to see if there is anything mentioned about this.
