Is it possible to re-number vertices or reset the way the numbers are assigned to vertices. My problem is I have a model that has been skinned, then broken apart to be unwrapped and textured and now the unwrap and the vertex weights dont match up. That is, I cant load the uvw coordinates to the skinned model and get the texture to line up, and I cant load the vertex weights and the envelopes onto the unwrapped model because vertices get assigned to the wrong bones.

I will reskin if that is the only option, but there must be a better way.
