You can either:
1. enalrge your picture in photoshop 4 times
2. use direct3d rendering.

The slow down is virtualy the same both cases. Use 2 if you have a relatively faster gpu, use 1 if you have enought of ram.

Maybe there's a better workaround I don't yet know. :)

I think if you go to preferences and then to viewport you can increase the viewport textures resolution. Not sure where thought , as I don't have 3dsmax here :(

D3d engine kills Max when in Smooth+highl+edged faces on most computers, so i can't recommend that.It sloes down so much that its imposiible to work with, unless you have a brand new industrial-3d card.
Max can load any size texture, but can't show it if not set up properly, so go to preferences and search for anything that seems to be related to texturex, like texel lookup, filtering, and such. Most of it is in the driver options. Thas what i use, and its perfect, even in Glide mode. (NOTE!: i use Max5, the problems above may have been solved in the newer versions)

Oh men, thx..i switched to d3d, and i found the options...thx! It's time for modelling!

Looks Good! I think it needs a little cleanup a the lower corner of the headlight, where a lot of lines just hang there, plus you got a few tris which is never good, but you can live it it :) I had a few tris on all my cars, and none noticed :) Maybe later.

Other thing i noticed is that i would decrease the Chamfering, cause it will look cartoonish in the end! Its not that bad, but you'r still early in the project, so it takes less to make such corrections. Make a test render with materials if you'r unsure. (HUN:nehogy úgy járj mint én a Civicemmel! 4órán át szenvedtem mire helyreraktam a teljes autón, szóval inkább most csináld meg, mert széels ronda éleid lesznek. A láccat ilyenkor csal, nézzen ki úgy mintha teljesen szögletes lenne, majd a renderben ok lesz.)
Keep it up.

mBlond

this is a testreneder..is it looks like cartoonish?

where the bumper joins the wheel arch, yes. How about a render thats 800*600, so we can see somethin at last? :D

mBlond
03-04-2005, 04:02 AM
Here is a small update on the bumper...next i will render in 800*600!

High, I need some help: Now I1m working on the rear side..and i did some mistake....on the front side! So how can I detach then later attach the front side, without any error?

lorddarthvik
12-04-2005, 08:14 PM
So your useing one mesh.. I can only say: NEVER do it, becasue youll run into problems like this (i learned that the hard way, too). BTW, why do you want to detach it? Well, if you must, there's a way. Select everything you want detached (faces of course), and click detach :) Its simple. Then if you want it attached again, select big mesh, click tha attach, and select the object you want attached. Now, allign the vertexes where you want them welded, and weld. THats the way i would do it, although i'm not a professional, so i hope theres a better way too. BTW, for your own sake, i hope your working with editable poly, and not mesh... that would be suicidal :D
GOOD LUCK!

draw an imaginary line down the middle of you *amazing* car. then select all polygons on one side and hit "hide". that will make them dissapear untill you hit "unhide all"

OR

you can select the front side of your car and just hit "detach"... it will make the front and back 2 different meshes. then, when you're done you can just collapse the 2 meshed back together. just don't move the meshes when they're detached coz then it'll be hard to allign them again.

i like option 1 better.
I bet there's an easier way, but that's what i do...

BTW, AMAZING CAR.

Thx man..it's a very good idea..I didn't know the Hide option in editable poly...so THX!!!!!!!!!!

Hope your modellling going fine. You asked me about the material i use. Please see my civic thread for the answer, if your still interested.

mBlond
12-04-2005, 11:21 PM
Thx for the material, but I used this material....and my C class was too shiny..hmmm...
And I have another question (or tip?)...check out theese wires (marked red)..where should i connect them...I need them 'cause of the "spoiler", but I don't wanna do another Triangle!!!!! thx...

lorddarthvik
13-04-2005, 01:16 AM
Hoooops i forgot :) You can reduce the shiny reflective look by setting the HDRI map's brightness lower. I used mine at 0,2 for example (so the sky eventually turned blue, originally it looked white) I'm still thinking about waht would be the best to do with that wire. Check for a few excess vertexes like here (green)

mBlond
13-04-2005, 06:24 PM
i know..'cause I have to draw forward this line to the front, under the window..but I check out some real pics and....difficult! So I will finish it later, when I'll correct the mistakes, and make the body cleaner!

mBlond
13-04-2005, 09:20 PM
Now this is a pic from the rear side! I know it needs a lot of repairing, but You didn't see the perevious version!!!!!! But critics, pls!

lorddarthvik
13-04-2005, 09:25 PM
Well, i don't see any serious errors! :) You'r doin a fine job m8. I see small mesh errors on the backlight, but nothing that a nice reflectin material couldn't hide :)

mBlond
13-04-2005, 09:33 PM
Cause you don't see the wire..it's horrible...altough thx!

mBlond
14-04-2005, 05:07 PM

mBlond
15-04-2005, 07:54 PM

mBlond
16-04-2005, 01:22 AM
Huh..I1m realy exhausted with this stock car..so i did a tuned up version (only on the front side)

mBlond
19-04-2005, 12:37 AM
Haha, I'm back..as I said I will countinue the tuning version..so this is little update...the rim need some work, and it has a lamp, bu 8I don't know why9 the max "killed" it..maybe next time!

lorddarthvik
19-04-2005, 01:04 AM
Could you share your HDRI files? :) Looks Great! I really like the rims style! It fits the Merci style.

mBlond
19-04-2005, 01:13 AM
Thx..i found on a hungarian site.....maybe www.world3d.hu........

mBlond
20-04-2005, 06:21 PM
Another update.,.the rim has accesories but the max make it black in the middle...don't you know why????

lorddarthvik
20-04-2005, 06:30 PM
looks strange.. maybe its just that the wheels reflecting itself there, wich is in shadow? First i would try turning off the shadow, and see the result. Is thats not it, then try to add an enviroment map to the material, and see if you get reflections, or it remains black.
Hmm, looking at the pic again, its maybe the hdri?

mBlond
20-04-2005, 06:47 PM
i dont know I think maybe the dark grey diffuse colour..with light grey it is good...but isn't good :), cause not realistic the material....

mBlond
20-04-2005, 09:50 PM
Added some accesories!

lorddarthvik
20-04-2005, 10:05 PM
The side-mirror looks cool, but that headlight need some work, and a nice shrome texture maybe with a black outline? :)

mBlond
20-04-2005, 10:41 PM
The mirror is my favourite thing on this car....would you be as so kind as to share your light texture?...I worked a lot, but i can't do anything nice!

lorddarthvik
20-04-2005, 10:54 PM
I dont use textures. I usually creat lights from chrome material only. I creat the lightbulb as a sphere, and place it inside the reflector part. Take a good look at a rael car. You can find chrome tutorial here: www.danielbuck.net
Sometimes, you need to place a bumpmapped glass in front of the lightbulb (the lens). That bump map is usually very simple, so you can creat it from procedural checker map. Only thing you need is a good enviroment to reflect, which you already have :)

mBlond
21-04-2005, 10:00 PM
Huh..al little update!
A made a whole new lamp...I'll post another render later, 'cause I did a new side skirt, and I fixed the side windows!

21-04-2005, 10:02 PM

keep it up!

mBlond
21-04-2005, 10:24 PM
Thx for the comments..I know there are a lot of errors..and i am repairing a lot...now check the repaired side with a full detailed door (i mean the previous version only have a small slice on the side)!..maybe I change the wheel, 'cause of the black circle!

mBlond
23-04-2005, 12:25 AM
