View Full Version : a bit late SPEEDPAINTING CHALLENGE nr.20!
Michael
04-04-2005, 09:41 PM
Sorry, guys and girls, they cut me off the net yesterday for the whole day, I just got online.
Anyways... let's paint some robots now, shall we?
This weeks challenge will be to create a concept of a big battle robot. It can be more of a manga feel to it, or maybe more transformers kinda thing... what it needs is SIZE. he needs to be big. You can put a human on the bottom next to his foot so show the size... Also think of how to add the scale to the robot... Like why the destroyers in Star Wars are so massive - because of the small parts, lights that add the scale to them, some cubes, some qubic shapes on the whole surface... not too many, just to get the feel of scale.
SINCE THE CHALLENGE WAS LATE, THE DEADLINE FOR THIS ONE IS ON THURSDAY!
Have fun and sorry one more time.

Another one, more an exercise.
-Simple sketsch: 10min
-scanning
-open in flash
-overline all
-fill with colour, i didn't put allot of time and effort on it, but I will paint it nicer on a later date.

Hey everyone, nice work. I've entered this contest once before, and this is my second image. I did the linework in about 40 mintues, with colouring and shading taking about another 40 minutes, it was all complete with about an hour and a half of work. Photoshop was used for everything. Crits are welcome. Good luck to everyone else this week as well!

blaine_t - nice one, I like the mood of it. :) Really cool :D
vhector - pretty cool, mix of photo and handpainting. I would give him a bit more realism, but the idea is really cool. Keep it going, guys!
Chubb - you could start with making thumbnails - 2x1 inch works, to work out the general looks, perspective, etc... Then you can upres it, correct the lineart, colour and ... you're done :)

I really like your robot. The design is quite simple, but it looks perfect. Great work
Today comments for all from the begining...
-Xtreme™: The first and the most impressive one. The colors are very funcional. The are parts of his body that looks wrong like the perspective of his arms. The design is cool but it hasn´t too many stuff that works underwater, I meant, it needs submarine engines, helix.
-Vhector: I don´t like your 1st one. The 2nd one looks better but i think you could do it better.
-Chubbs: Some scary but it doesn´t look a giant one. Dark bg makes the robot look smaller. Play with yhe perspective and point of view
-Vhector: (for the 3th) I hat that kind of bg usage  I don´t undestad that pic.
-blaine_t: The idea is good, military robot in a hangar. Change the perspective, put the point of view near the gound, like first person view to gain the feeling of a giant robot without normal sized person comparision.

I tried to capture the feeling of greatness and evilness of the metal giant destroying the city. The red eyes remind us of Terminator and judgment day and our own destruction. The foggy sun is a reminder of the climate changes and the green house effect. The man hanging from the rat's moustache is a symbol of the brave human resistance to attackers, as saying "hope is the last thing to die", this scene takes place somewhere in Bagdad. Hope you enjoy.

I feel my work is being completly ignored... is it maybe because I posted it after the deadline? But I thought it was a "late" competition, so I posted late. If it's a late competition and people post on time then... what's the point?! :grr:
