Is it possible to add an animated texture (e.g a .gif) to an object? If it is, how can it be done?

yup...use a projector light....add the animation to the map slot...and scale the lights attuation to fit the size of the object it`s projecting onto.....
it`s in your help files.....as to what maps you can use.

You can add avi textures to objects. I use it all the time... now the trick is to use uncompressed avi files, or else you can get some nasty errors. if you have a compressed avi file with a codec, use radvideo bink ( www.radvideo.com ) to convert the avi into an uncompressed Full Frames avi ( caution: they occupy massive amounts of harddisk space )

To add an avi texture, simply do like adding a bitmap texture, but at file type, select avi... You can loop the avi, ping-pong it, select play rate.. all these are on the Time panel in the material windows... ( next to the Output panel )

SOLVED!!!

Hmmh, new problem: when I add the avi texture to my object, it looks perfect in that viewport view but when i try to render the scene the whole avi texture is weird: it is positioned to face directly to the camera and not like to object's face. So how can i fix this? And is there a way to make the texture play in that viewport view? Thanks again!

New question: Can i change the texture of an object during the animation? I mean, if I set a key to frame 1 and another key to frame 10, can I make it so that the thexture changes from key 1 to key 10 so that I could assign a different texture to these two keyframes?

No... You'll have to make do with avi textures...
