Im not sure if this is the right place to post this but in want to create a force field in 3ds max 7 like the one in the picture below, ive tried many different things but the closest ive got is by applying a Dreamscape:SeaSurface to it. Basically i want the edges to be white fading to 0 opacity, thanks for you help.

Hi Quaver
It is very easy to make a force field look alike: i tried making one and all you have to do is: start with a normal material... then select the button beside the Diffuse color and chose *Falloff* material then you can set the color and maybe add noise... after that you just copy the falloff material - or just pick a new one and put it to the *Opacity* button OK!... and it is a good idea to set *Self-Illumination* to 100% then just play around withe the settings!
hope that was any help?...

Great ideea Bardur.. I was going to suggest something of the sort. :)
Note for Quaver: make sure you either use raytrace shadows, or disable shadow casting for the force field, or anything that will be inside it will not be illuminated.

Would you use this same method if you wanted to achieve an effect similar to the Phantom's in Final Fantasy Spirit's Within?

Yeah, fallof can be used for that and maybe some self-illumination on it to let it glow inside.
