image format conversion question

Does anyone know of any software to extract individual frames from a video file so I can import them into maya live for match-moving?

Most video editing software could do that for you. Just load it up on the timeline, then when you export the movie, change the settings to a image file rather than a movie file format, such as tga, tiff, ect. You will then have a sequence of files to work with.
The pic is a screenshot of the export settings from Premiere Pro 1.5.

thanks - I don't have premier, but i'll download the tryout and see if it can be done there

You could use Radvideo Bink from www.radvideo.com
It's freeware and you can convert an avi file into batches of image files.
