View Full Version : SPEEDPAINTING CHALLENGE nr.22!
Michael
01-05-2005, 06:24 PM
This week's really simple, fun and merry....
Imagine the beach of your dreams, the place you want to go, when you want to escape from all worries of the everyday life. And now...
...paint it.
You may use references and paint from them, but you may not use or manipulate photos - like copy/paste the sky, water, etc. It needs to be hand-painted.
Have fun. :)

I wish I had a Wacom tablet!... I could do wonderful things... but I can't afford one now. Michael how about upgrading the prize? How about a Wacom tablet to the winner? If not every week...how about evry month?.. it would be my chance to have one! It was just an idea..... :o
David Ciprian
02-05-2005, 05:08 PM
And because they're called SPEED challenges, why not give a muscle car as prize? :p
Michael
02-05-2005, 06:27 PM
Drakala - I have considered that in the beginning, and everything was depending on the popularity of the competitions. And unfortunatelly - in the 3D focused forums little of people will go 2D. That's a good idea for a prize of a bigger challenge, BUT it would require great load of participants. And we don't have that here, unfortunatelly. We have a few regular participants, little of new ones are comming in. :(

Heyy, thought I´d join in this time. First try at enviroment drawing =)
This is my little beach, tried to capture the feeling of paradise close to home.
Its more expressing feelings instead of drawing details.
Some mystery in the background too.. :P
Made this in Photoshop in about 3h.
C&C are allways welcome

I'll sit by these cliffs and watch the sunset...
[1h50min] Photoshop, with mouse... seems to be much more fun to draw by wacom... (=
EDIT
bakedeyes: awsome!!!! love the boat, love boats... (=
Xtreme: nicely done...
Chubbs: You know I love you, nice go with the beach... cool lightning.. ;)
I want to see more!!!

Since I was raised in the landscape of snow... the Swedish mountains...
A frozen lake would be my most favourite beach for getting away from all worries... miles away from civilization...
Chubbs Thanks heres more of it....
1h15min spent on this one...

Ok here's my dream beach. I'll sitt under that tree and.... well.... i'll do nothing...
My first try at ps and you can see I've got much to learn. Please, say what I can make better.
Btw it took me a bit more then 3 1/2 hour to make this (first ps painting)

I tried a friend's wacom (actually it's aiptek...) and it really is amazing! Here is my first drawing with it... now I've got to make something for the competition!

played with some watercolors in painter...i think chalk woulda been better, but bleh...
I've always liked mountainy things with lakes, they always seem to have perfect weather when I see them. Probably b/c Texas is just so damn flat where I live...
oops forgot, took me about half an hr.

Wintzell: What's all this with copying my text and then adding a lame picture to insult me!?
what's your f***ing problem? If you thought this would be funny, it wasnt.. I was serious about making my picture, and Im damn proud of it too.
So why you comming here to mock me? F*cking a*shole
hpslashluvr
05-05-2005, 06:24 AM
Hmm, I didn't even notice that he was mocking you. Don't worry, I like yours, Chubbs! I'm sure it was one of those funny at the mo' late night things and he didn't mean any harm.

Wintzell: why dont you delete your post, you didnt come here for the contest anyways..
hpslashluvr: guess your right, but I´m absolutely not in the mood for being mocked for something I put serious time into making, not in this manner in which he did.
Ruined my evening

hey, knohbody, very few ppl do painting on this forum, so good job at doing one ;) I would get rid of the black outline, if anything I think it would be brighter on the tops from the sky. hmm...seeing this on another comp makes me think that i need to readjust my own monitor...(mine is awfully dark green isn't it?)

yes, my friend uses a different brand, bought a ginormous one (12 inches x something) for prolly about the price of a 6x8 graphire wacom ($130ish)...it works really well for her. However I hear using a smaller one is best...so get one! I saved up my money from slaving away at a beauty store and bought me some painter/wacom!

I didn't have time to enter this week, but I just had to leave a note for CHK.
I thought your work was brilliant! The circular/ cantalevar composition; the colour use is fantastic. Artistically sound, I simply love it!! Fantastic job, mate.
Heres my entry... I've never really liked doing environments but this was acutally quite fun. I imagined myself with the sun on my face and a cool wind blowing... Then i thought of mountains (which i love seeing because there aint any good ones in the UK) and this is what i came up with!
Lots and lots of references used here (as i said, i dont really draw environments) and i think the mountian range i studied was Everest, so this should be apparent in the work!
Great submissions from everyone else too so far!
I got boored and doodled on mine a bit more- heres the update! (took around another 20-25 min)... Im not entirely sure if its better or worse but i wanted to try adding more details to see what would happen!

WIP @ 2hrs. (1hr or less actual work w/TV, etc.)
I want to add a mass of foliage on the left edge. Beyond that, it will seem empty...yet perhaps in a pristine, untouched way? Any comments or suggestions?
EDIT: ...eww. and of course the jpg compression won't be as nasty as that. I have it in Photoshop with several layers. [and no waycom]

Yes, Drakala - Katar IS out of place. It wouldn't be proper to post them in the 2d speedpainting thread, since it's a waste of disk space really - posting that kind of work among other, finished ones - and a bit of shame, since the man that posts it seems to have skills... Posting it here makes the matter twice as bad. :dunno: Get yourself together and win viewers attention by making really good piece of artwork, not by posting that kind of .... "art".

Hi,
first entry to a speed paint challenge. decided to give it a try (also to make better use of the graphics tablet i bought a while ago)... i'm a bit rusty these days, so it's not that good. :xx:
Few years back - in the good old time - i did a lot with photogenics (see idruna.com, sadly does not run on the mac yet), tvpaint and 8bit paint programs like deluxepaint or ppaint on the amiga.
Ah, well... it's not a beach, but a place of dreams. Hope that qualifies it too :smug:
regards,
tokai
photoshop, fiddled around and had fun with it for 3 hours.
<edit>
damn.. should have read the full thread early and noticed that the deadline was over already. What a shame.. well... still was some fun ;-)
@mod: would be nice to have the deadline contained in the initial announcement post next time, thx. :)

Tokai - I've created Speedpainting rules thread so that I don't need to write the same rules and messages in every challenge :p ;)
OK, here are the voting results:
Chk - 22 points
3dmonkey - 15 points

Congratulations to the winner, Chk. You know what to do. :) To everyone else, that missed the rules thread :p - the prize for winning the challenge is 3D Total Texture Cd of your choice.
If I made a mistake in counting - PM me.
Again!??:~
Well...Hem..Thanks everybody! This thread was sure an interesting one for all of us. Let's see what we can do on the "Night of the living death".
