I modeled this vase with the FFD (cyl) technique. I started the model with a standard primitive cylinder. I then made it hallow with Boolean.

Now I need to make if smooth but when I go to meshsmooth it dose this. It covers the top and makes a weird hole.

Also how do I make a marble like material that looks real? Are there any tutorials that I could follow? I am new to 3D studio max 7 as you can see.

First of all, Boolean may seem like a very nice tool in the beginning.. But when you'll soon find out it's horrible ;)
I made you a little videotutorial on moddeling a vase, download it here:

It's recorded using the techsmith codec, dowload that here:

oh yeah.. use Right click + save target as on both links :)
btw, sorry, I can't answer your material related question :(

Wow thanx alot. So could this method be used to create other things like plates, cups, cans, barrels, etc...

Yeah, it can be used to create other things, like the barrel or the plate. Check this maxfile I created for you, it holds a barrel and a plate. Just add a turbosmooth modifier at 3 iterations :)

WOW, very cool. One more question if I may :D. The first tutorial that you showed me (the one with the modeling of the vase) How would you add handles to it?
Like this for example:

AND

Would I have to make it while modeling the vase or after I am done? Same model or separate?

Adding handles would be easier when they're separate objects, but it might look better when they're attached to the vase itself. When you model them attached to the vase, the base geometry needs to be a little more dense before you start moddeling the handles, if you don't want strange deformations when smoothing.
