Is it possible to build layered textures into one object in 3DS Max? Let me explain a little more clearly. I want to put a decal onto an object that has different texture properties than the base it's on. If I just draw it in as part of the map, they all reflect the same. But I want this decal to have a completely different reflectivity to make it stand out. The only thing I can think of is to just duplicate the object, make it a fraction of a percentage bigger, and apply the decal image using alpha channels to hide the rest of the object, but this gets messy once you start to animate and can result in phantom shadows. If there's a better way, please fill me in.

Use a mix map and a alpha map to omit what you dont want. Pretty basic...

Mix map, eh?
I've never heard of it. But now that I know what I'm looking for and that it's possible, I should be able to get my project working.
Thanks for the help!
