is there a way to first apply a material to an object and then secondly apply the ink n paint material type so the mateial already on the object takes on the ink n paint effect? and not just the edges.

lets say if i created a sphere with a globe material on it. could i apply an ink n paint material type so not just the edges of the globe were ink but there was ink arround the continents as well?

Though I can't give you an explicit answer because I'm unsure, I'd suggest the following:
1. Try working with the bump features of the ink n paint material to see if you can get the land masses to be raised and create "ink worthy" features.
2. Try working with Mix, Blend, and Composite maps/mat types to see if you can get more than one type of ink and paint material to adhere to the object. That way, the boarders between the materials (could/would/should) be highlighted by the ink in the renderer.

Good luck,
