Hey guys, im beginning modeling on a scene in front of a building. I would post a picture up here, but I'm kinda new at this, so I'll describe the problem as best I can. I'm using 3dsmax7, with a brick texture from one of the Total Texture Cds, and when i applied it to my wall, the parts that i had extruded inward(i.e. i made stairs by extruding the wall inward) look like the texture is mashed together and....well....looks nothing like bricks, more like a wavy mesh of colors. If anyone can help me out, I'd be glad to post a .jpg and get to work on this.

You need to use UVW maps, which will give your object mapping coordinates. Either unwrap it your self with the 'Unwrap UVW' modifier, or use a basic 'UVW Map' modifier. Read your referance for more details.

Oh ok, thanks. I'll get back to you tomorrow after school if I have any problems.

Thanks Deadly, i added a UVW Mapping modifier to it and it looks a lot better. I dont think ill have too many more problems from here, but I'll post something if I do.

I'm trying to attach a picture of the scene fully rendered and textured, but it keeps telling me about the limit of the size of the submission. I took out all of the textures, but it a) made it look horrible and b) still didn't help. Any suggestions?

Well UVW maps are for simple models, the more complex your model is the more control you need in your mapping. At a certain point you just have to use 'Unwrap UVW' modifier.

This will let you break your model down poly by poly. Check your max resources for more info, and some tutorials.

The textures are fine, my question is how can i post a picture in this thread with the render being fully textured? It keeps telling me that the file is too big.

either the dimension is to big(width by height), or the file size is to large (i.e. to many bits/kb)...

Here's a preview of what I have right now. I did the poster really quick just because i wanted to make sure I remembered to add a better one later. This is my first time of modeling an entire scene, texturing it, and adding lighting, so I was quite proud of myself for actually doing it haha. Feel free to criticize.

Here it is again, but rendered with the Vray demo; im getting the real version here soon. I put a blend material on and mixed the original chair material with the material on the door, i thought it looked a little better. I also moved the door forwards and allowed the doorknob and all to be seen. Any constructive criticism is welcome, thanks.
