Fastrak: thanks, i wanted to add more stitching on the sides and just behind the toes, to get more of an authentic western boot style but ran out of time.
You must see a few of them there in Texas or maybe even wear a pair.

The stitching on the top as you said, if very popular. Many times the leather is dyed in colors to help accentuate the stitching. Pretty cool.
Yeah, I see them everywhere. Many of them are very exotic looking too. It's really strange to see an old guy in jeans and dirty pickup, who just came off the ranch, wearing $800 pair of boots, but it's true. As for me...never owned a pair in my life. Pair of sneakers or hiking boots due me just fine.
Good job once again.
OK! I think this may be my last effort for this challenge.
Wanted to try a more feminine style.
Thanks for comments everyone. It's all good. :-)
I think Fastrak has this one stitched up even though we all put our soles into this challenge we've taken a leathering from the maestro again. I am not worthy to lace the boots of the master and I'm sure heel win again. :-)

Loads more great entries once again, i see
mboi- Thanks again for the comment..
pixel_pimp- Great idea with the 'Knights boots', and well modeled..
nph_assasin- Love the trainers, very clean and well modeled
Marty- Great slippers mate, you've inspired me now, I may have to do my 'Homer' head slippers...if I have the time
LESTAT- Thanks for your comments, appreciate it :) Very cool entry.. nice clean and well defined model...good job...
Sorry for not mentioning everyone, theres loads of great ideas and models...I'm just a bit brain dead today :hmm: :xx: ...good job everyone
I finally managed to model a pair of womens sandels...These were fairly easy, but all the time was spent moving splines..(oh how i love splines :wall: )

So many good entries.
Havenīt picked up my favorites, - but there are more then 10 that blew my
mind! Took only the last page: Smallpiece and JHB - Fantasic work guys!
Also Fastrak (page 2), Rooky, Vince, Puckducker and (maybe) my favorite
andoy - your boots are made for walking! Cool.
Nice topic - hadnīt thought that it is that difficult.
I try KISS method, but I erase most of the details I had, because it just doesnīt look good with to much details (in my case!).
I stoped texturing after 2 hours - If Iīve choosen to put in more detail with texturing I guess I had to work another 2 or 3 hours on the textures.

tons of great entries...smallpiece your last one is one of my favourite but great going for all(fastrak andoy and other) one thing that comes in mind is that some model are really too weird and unweareable at all.so keep in mind that a footwear has to be put on.
another one from me.hope that my words won't put upon myself.
done in 60 mins in max rendered with finalrender one sky and one direct.

Yeah i've never been a great fan of splines, normally try and avoid them but sometimes you just can't get out of it.
Thanks mr_Lemon...i aim to please..lol...nice job on your entry, very slick.

That is really cool The_Bully. I will have to ceep an eye on your progress.
I seriously have to learn how to texture my models soon, lol. I can't ceep
posting un-textured stuff forever!? I have only made the 3 things I have posted

Nice set of loafers. Good detail with the chain.
JHB
That's 2 on one page...stop it.
Enty is excellant. Presentation is top-notch once again. Added logo to your work is great touch.
Shape is pleasing, modeling is clean, and very nice leather texture.
As for the rest of your post.....Oh...Good...Grief. (meant to be said with pregant pauses :) )
Smallpiece
Great detail. Your spline work really paid off. Kudos.
Vidiot
Thanks for the comment. KISS is a great way to approach a complicated subject. Good Job.
Mr_Lemon
Really well done. Love the detail on the metal piece. Excellant.
The Bully
Ha! Nice. Reminds me of those marshmellow peep candies!
Got another "simple" idea....see if I have any time to do it...work is keeping me away. AAAHHHHH.
I just HAD to have a go at these, seeing as it's freezing here tonight in Jockland. Maybe better shut that window? Anyway, I promise I'm away to bed now . (Very late again)

D-Russ Loved the skates and your shoes fit the bill. (Who's Bill?)
Smallpiece All your entries are up there.
Jannik Hey Cheeky stuff!
Vince Impessed by the reeboks. Obviously a sole man.

im sorry if this seems something random, but, since i am alone here, i must shout this out loud. PRAISE BE! EXTRUDE ALONG SPLINE IS MY HERO!!! does anyone else use this command? i love it like i love small shiny things and platypuses. the model that is currently rendering was created with *almost* no other command than extrude along spline. editable poly rocks!
but getting past my newfound button...
subcrocodile, I'm with you ont he growing up thing, the more i model for this forum the more cool stuff i find out (like extrude along spline! :P)
JHB, being from alaska, i have to give you props on those snowshoes, they look great.

Marty! what have you been filling firefly's head with? you arent supposed to be testing your brainwashing techniques on employees!
thanks firefly. i got a little happy with that new button... after i finished that model i started playing around with it some more and made some wierd stuff. i love the results that button gives... anyhow... off to bed... too much modeling and not enough sleep makes for a bad employee!

extrude along spline is good, but if there is a little sharpness and rotation in the spline it suks,it works well only with smooth&smooth drawed spline.and i did not use them in my models in shoe modelling(how stupid me).

I have had some recovery issues in hand that kept me from this week up until today... But things are rolling still on Andy's watch... so you are still Big Brother'ed, don't worry.
Firstly I have to state that this is probably the first time in so long that I went through so many pages with close to no disapointing entries.
Thank you all for your cooperation and doing your best to fit within the rules.
It is especially impressive to see that everybody is doing their very best to present their works better.
Well good luck all.. your models are exceptional!
Now I have to get back to some of my 'Big-Brother'ing;
D-Russ;
I would be very greatful to you if you could share your techniques in making the model you have entered in your post #107.
It is very impressive and acceptionally discriptive. I too have tried modeling such and have not managed to get as far as yourself. If you would share your methods it would mean a lot.
Thank you
PKT;
Your post #204 is concidered a multiple post.. how ever you personally title it.
Remove the image or I shall be obligated to disqualify you as it is.
Thank you
.: MVP :.;
Welcome to the forums...
Your LW8 set on your image is more than acceptable and understandable by the judges part. Your entry is aplicable in the sate that it is.
But for the clarity sake for those brwosing the forums it would be kind of you to state somewhere in your post that it is Lightwave.
This is not an obligational demand.. It would be just nice since many here are in a journey to learn from others... And not always as experienced in software abreviations even if they actually use them.
Thank you.
Jannik;
On your post #224 ... your wire is acceptable since the modeling process for that area is predictable.
But I personally can't understand how your model is a foot-wear.. since the ball of the foot shall fall through.
The entry shall not be disqualified and is a nice one, that we are greatful that you shared.. but do note that conditions such are cared for in the judging process.
Good Luck!
Well thank you for all of your amazing entries.. good luck to all of you!

thanks for the comment, it's allways nice to know what one is doing wrong or not ;-)
about the ball of the foot falling through hehe, just noticed now...
think my comment for that would be that it's a "feel the earth" shoe, and it will actually still be possible to wear it without dropping it cause og the lock... though I must admit it might be a nightmare wearing it hehe...

thanks for the kinda comments guys, especially fastrak...the design of your object is always good...btw marty the extrude along spline command is not the bevel pofile modifier,in max under polyedit you could find such that smart tool that allow you to extrude one poly along a spline and let you select the number of edge, twist and other thing. with that you could easily do things like trees and obivously shoes :D
cheers

Thanks Smallpiece and PKT... They were actually going to be Spiderman Boots (The kind from the movies where the webbing is 3 dimentional and not just "painted" on) but after about 3-4 mins experimenting with it... I decided to go with my favorite comic book character's boots instead. :)
Bully: I often find that models that I get disgusted with are for some unknown reason the ones that people end up really liking. It's easy for us to get over critical of our own work because it doesn't match the image we've built up in our heads. Luckily there are some cool people here to encourage us to keep going even when we sometimes see "failure" within ourselves. Your model is great dude... I'm just glad I'm not a girl. (I have a hard enough time wearing sneakers and stuff... wearing anything with heels is just insane!)
Mr. Lemon: Thanks for clearing that up for me... it looks like I have a new toy to try playing with. Uhh... hey... wait a second. Don't you work for me? Yeah... my records indicate that you've been with us for quite some time. You should know better than to correct me in front of the whole forum like that. As my advisor... you're suppossed to pull me off to the side and correct me. (By the way... in your quote... the word you're looking for is "shot" not "shoot". It's an easy mistake... English can be tricky sometimes.)
Not saying anything about this. You never know who's watching :-)

Jannik;
A little bit of depth of field blur is acceptable.. You have to realise that we can judge only what we can see. There have been entries before that have had used it and gotten to successful degree's.
We ask you only one thing: What ever you want judged you have to show. Or better said it would be a good idea you do.
Hope this answers your question;

Nice set of sandals. Love the graphic on the sole. The straps look like glass, but I assume you were going for a plastic look. :dunno:
Agamemnwn
Nice pair of shoes you got going there. Glad you could take a breather from the hectic schedule your education has strapped you with. Good to take a break from time to time. Detail on the upper buckle is nicely done. The curve around the back of the heal needed a little more of a lip on it to soften the profile, but it's all good just the same.
Lestat
Close, but no cigar. I do have a left and right foot boot, and there was no patch or plane for the logo. Forgot to model it so I just mapped it on the set of polygons just below the straps. The error is: the boot that is standing is the left boot, and the logo on Harley boots always faces the outside, not the inside as I have depicted. Pretty glaring mistake if this was to ever get to a client. :wall:

I love the "concrete slippers" idea JHB. I was actually gonna' make that myself, but the model I started on evolved to something completely difrent, lol. Grate textures also.
I was gonna' go for the cylinder shaped one (concrete in a bucket) with some leg/foot holes in it, lol.

this my third and final entry for this week. it should have been my fourth, but after five attempts at modelling my trainers in an hour i gave up. i have noticed theres a lot of girls shoes being modelled, you guys are in trouble when your sisters/girlfriends start looking for their favorite sandals. and you'll have a lot of explaining to do when your mates come round and find girls shoes in your bedroom.
anyway, i hope you enjoy!!!!

and to all your models hmmmm... I don't think there's any more to say besides what have been said allready... outstanding ;-)

Thanks Justo
I have been using vray to render lately. Although, in this last one, most of the textures were just standard max materials, except for the shiny bits. Now that I have to learned to tolerate longer render times (I'm very impatient, 5 minutes is forever for me) I an considering going back to the regular scanline render. I feel I have alot more flexibility with my textures and lighting...just so slow. Hhhmmm, we'll see.

Phew - one last try.
To be honest - the under part was done in 10-12 minutes, but the boot killed me!
Should have done a "Highheel on the skate" - they are easier to model than boots.

I said "what the heck?" and made a 4rd entry.
Time run a bit out (I would have liked to change a few parts, mostly on the ribbon).
Well and then I messed up something (don't ask, I don't know exactly myself). Thats why I only can show the main shoe body in his smoothed form (in the wireframe), only the inner part is left unsmoothed. I already wondered when putting scene and textures together why the mess is so slow, but I first noticed it when I dissabled the smoothing (Hypernurbs) to make the screenshot that the control mesh still looked smoothed. And following Murphys law I didn't saved and there were not enough undo steps (Cinema has only 20 or so, prolly depends on memory usage too). :-(
Hope the wire is still aceptable that way.
(last but not least the JPEG compression does not like the red colour, thats why it looks so blured, but 100KB is 100KB)
regards,
tokai

- Tokai: Those are grate! Good job. And a good idea also! I was kinda' waiting for someone to do that :D

Well i think i made it in time :)
It took me 5 tries last night to model these and i kept running out of time.
I was going to give up but decided to give it another go on my lunch break.
It was not easy and theres a lot of details still missing :(
I also tried to get that reflector look on the logo( you know when light shines on your sneakers) had to do it in post.
well here it is
The Bully skate shoes
Software: Cinema 4d
modeling time: all 60 mins(which is never enough)
rendering time: 20 mins
Post work: 20 mins
I am back and this time with shoes :) Probably the most famous shoes in the world.
60 minutes to model, 25 to texture and approx. 4 to render. In 3Ds Max 7.0.
Small remark to wireframes: I had to collapse the wire several times so I could proceed. So you have here several stages of the wireframe "before smoothing". The one to the left is final, middle one is one collapse before final and the right one is almost the beginning before first smoothing.
To model without collapsing is to have a limited modelling capacity (for me anyway :)).
Anyway: I hope you enjoy the image, because that is what counts :)

Hello ppl,
Like allways amazing works, I've been watching U form the shadwos and really enjoy the show, but not time to come in.
But like in the last competition in the last 100 meters I find some time and come in  . But poorly pre plan model, because no time for more. :hurt:
I actually done the model in 30 min, and the rest to 60 is tweeking (most ruine) the model, did't find so fast wath detailes to put in, so start to playing with vertexs to give it a smoot(real) and not rough look, but I finish with an ugly mesh
Anyway, congratulation to all and good luck,
And offcorse I can't wait to see the new subject on the new chalenge, maybe now I will find the time, see U

thx. for comment. :-)
Actually I didn't wanted to make another woman shoe after the cinderalla one, but the originally planned 'foot+leg in plaster' (really wonder why noone else had that idea ;-) ) sounded too difficult, not because the plaster, but because the scene would have required at least 2 modelled legs incl. feets to look interesting a bit. :-)

Thanks mate.
Im not sure what you mean by hard good look but i used Hi res scans
of materials like straps on my bag. And theres a Option in Cinema 4d that
puts a shaper filter on the renders
thats pretty much it
thanks again for the comments :)

Black
08-06-2005, 05:53 AM
No;
She runs, dances, jumps, hops, skids, spins in shoes with heels MUCH higher than those.. I think she would dance the nutcracker in these much more comfortable ones.
Chek her out.. she IS a woman that deserves all the respect that she can get.

Sorry for the delay folks, we are still playing catch-up.
here's the results for the footwear challenge.
As usual the standard was high but quite honestly some of the shoes here may have been a little uncomfortable - I realise
it was a tricky subject, so blame Black for this one and congratulations to all who entered.
