I've got this prblem with texturing a coin..
I've scanned in both sides of a real coin, and placed it on a transparent background, in photoshop (and I saved it as a .jpeg, I think. Does the file format matter?).
But when I place the material in 3Ds MAX, I get a square material, not a round one. That is, I get white corners that aren't supposed to be there.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

alpha mapping, search in the help files in max for more info about how it works.
It's very straight forward though.
or do a search of these forums for threads about alpha, you will find alot of them.

Quick Reply
I actually usually use JPG for my low-grade alpha maps. In 3d studio max, it's not the material that determines the nature of the map, it's the placement. I could put any format picture in the alpha channel (even an RGB image!) and Max knows what to do with it. If you need high levels of greyscale definition, I recommend a 16-bit TIF for 65k shades of grey. =D
