Very nice model Diabolos! Love the style! :) Only for the screen it would be better to make the RGB intensity a bit bigger (or I don't know how it is called in maya). But again - NICE =]

So many nice models this week! What a pitty I don't have much time now to make something but I think I`ll have it next week :)

Fastrak welcome bck and with such a great entry! Love you models and renders! :)

Hey thanks Rooky, I have never experimented with the rgb settings yet (Maya has the default .1) but I will try them on my next textured model.

Thanks for all the nice comments. But it's really not that amazing. If you found the trick how it goes you can do bunches of details in short time. Thats actually the fun part. Getting the case in the right form is much more difficult.

I made a little tutorial about it. I hope it's okay to share it here (it has references to this challenge). Maybe it's helpful for someone, maybe someone can give me hints how to do it much faster and/or better. Anyway.. gimme comments. Thx! ;-D

(@mods: it's not a entry of course. ;-) )

had to split it in 3 parts, because the file size.

Wow, very nice posts Tokai (everyone rate them as such. Now. No I mean right now). I hope you don't mind if I add something about texturing.

This relates to 3DS Max 7 (maybe 6 too. I don't know, it was a huge leap to go from 5.1 to 7). Another method is to apply a multi/sub-object material to your model. With the shrink and grow selection commands, it's easy to assign groups of polygons to different material ID's as you model. You can enable and disable meshsmooth (heh sorry, it's late and I just got home. That word sounds funny to say right now) to make sure you have the right polys selected, and assign them a certain ID. To make this work though, you have to have an idea of which sections you want textured separately as you create the mesh. It's much more difficult to do so afterwards. Tokai's method obviously works both ways. But if you've got the final image either in your head, or on a sketch/reference image, this may save you the trouble of making copies of the mesh. (I'm not familiar with other programs, so I don't know if the same will apply)

Could be that I just didn't read all of the posts well enough. If that's the case, trust Tokai on this one. Otherwise I hope both of our posts helped a little

Yeah, I know. No pretty pictures in my post yet ;). Like I said I'm tired. Have fun with the birthday challenge :D

Scariest thing ever-
Although I was just joking around with that iphone I made...

I wasnt that far off at all apparently. Just 5 minutes ago, my dad showed me the following site: http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/portable-media/ipod/bits-and-bytes-video-on-demand-iphone-028996.php and it scared the living crap out of me how right I was that ieverything is coming.

...I must be psychic.

In spite of some good pre plannig this one still took more than 2 hours to model so it could never had made it as an entry. Did it a couple of weeks ago, but as I was browsing around I thought I would share the mesh with you. I`ve pointed out it`s main problem and I also think it could be more efficient overall. What do the poly experts think?

If a bit late, I`ve got to mention Trimyr, Tokai, Fastrack, kiggin, Job@mac, andrewday, KArris and others for their tasteful models :)

It`s getting hot here..

cheeeers :)

well, that is quite a complex model, I think you could have been a little more efficient in some aspects- however- it is very detailed- and quite beautiful :-)

In the mesh it looks great- but the actual thing doesnt look too realistic.
I dono, thats my opinion.

Nicktg, quite good model, although there are som minor things that are objectionable.
First, the part above the display looks a bit too round. You should block that by adding a second line to the one that goes around the earpiece.
Second, always try to put the lines als equal as possible (equal spaces between the lines). There are many unnecessary lines between all those buttons. (actually that might not be true, I just see on the smoothed phone that there are some dents, but it's hard to see).
And always avoid triangles. Often, they don't shade very nice. Polygons with four and five edges are totally ok.
And last, the up-and-down-button. In it's middle it is too round and unspecific. Add one or two more lines in the middle of the button to make it more technical (even if the original button is quite round in that middle, here it doesn't look right. Have a second look at your orignal sample).

But all in all these are really minor things. Your model is indeed really good.
And your second one won't need 2 hours to build, I'm sure you will be much faster next time :-)
