View Full Version : Export MAX files to be used in Maya ???????

Hi!

I have a big problem. I work in 3D MAX but i need to export some model into a type of file that can be imported in Maya.

I've exported files in .obj type , but they can't be imported in maya.

I've found the Okino Polytrans software , but no money for it, didn't find a serial, crack for the demo version.

I've found 3D Object Converter 3.40 , but ,the same problem.


Could you help me, PLSSSS?

How can i export those files to be imported in maya? i need to export only the meshes and the UV , no skining, no animation.( a plug-in, a converter , something, and were i can find it , or send it , if you can , to me lord69max@yahoo.com)

.obj files CAN be imported into maya (OBJ is a Alias format)...I just tried it and it works fine... the only problem is that the object will be sideways, since 3ds uses Z as the vertical axis, where as maya uses Y. I'm not 100% sure if the obj file contains UVs or not... but the geometry transfers... you must be doing something wrong.

when I export in obj from cinema 4d to max the file contains UVs ..
however you can set in the export options to rotate the files so the vertical axis will be Y ..
there are 2 plug to import/export in obj: max2obj - obj2max ..they are free

I`ve got the same problem. max exports the file into obj but in the maya there is no way to import it. i checked the imort and open files but it does not detect the file

I have Maya and 3ds open as I'm typing this...so I know it works. Export the object from 3ds as an obj file. Now, in maya, go to import. Under "files of type" set it to "Best Guess".... now go into your 3dsmax/meshes directory...here you should find the exported obj file. It will load just fine.

Could you please tell me the exact settings for export ?

in geometry:
enable rotate model
faces: quadriangles
disable smooth groups
vertex scale: 1.0

in maya import the file (file > import)

In Maya, you may have to enable the .obj loader. It's at window->settings->plugins .
