Interesting visuals, reminds me to a certain extent of the retro look they had in Sky Captain, elthough toned a bit down.
As for dinosaurs, I have no idea. Action I suppose.

Yes there were dinosaurs in the original. I've seen the old black&white movie 3 times and they followed the predecessors very closely which is very good. Love it!

There were? Haven't seen the movie in a loooong time but I couldn't remember any dinos. Well it seems you're right, which is great since I hate it when they add stuff in remakes.

There is also flying dinos, if it is to follow the book.

WOW.

I understand that one of the things the animation crew was made to do was actually watch the original flick.........
Apparently by the end they weren't complaining......

It looks alright, I don't know if jack black was the correct choice for this, he doesnt seem like a believable character, unless he's going to break out into guitar solo..;)

Yes there were dinosaurs in the original version, as well as a flying one near the end.

What the heck is with the dead village people?!? It's like they're from the Grudge or something..?

From the trailer Jack Black seemed like a good choice. He has a greedy face kinda, which fits the role. and the reason why most people don't like him is because he mainly stars in comedy. Maybe this will show another side of him.

I predict that, like War of the Worlds, this movie is gonna blow.
This is gonna be an all too standard bunch of expendable guys and screaming girls and animals behaving like jack in the boxes and natives who have lousy aim and "I wonder if the hero will make it out of this alive?" and poor continuity and so on. Estimated innovation = 0%

All of these remakes rely entirely on computer effects, yet the media hype machine is still pretending it's the art of the actors and director that we're going to see. When are they gonna have a VFX crew on Letterman or Leno?

This is probably true if you have read the book (if there is one, that is) or have seen the 1930s film. For those of us who have not and the youngsters, it is new. I grew up hearing about King Kong, seeing the posters and all but to be honest the only thing I know about King Kong is he is a giant gorrilla that ends-up on the Empire State Building with some blond and some biplanes trying to shoot him down. Whether he broke-out of the zoo or not - I don't know. I never got round to finding out.
Same thing with War of the Worlds - I haven't read the book either. Most of my pals who have seen it tell me if you have not read the book you will enjoy it. If you have, you will be disappointed.
As for just going to see the VFX, I do not see anything wrong with that. If the charactors are well done, and has good dialog - which I thought was serously lacking in Star Wars III, despite the good CG and storyline - I think it will be a success.
And after going through those diaries and watching and understanding how those guys bust their nuts and how really big the movie is - personally my focus has somewhat shifted away from the acting. I don't think I would mind going to watch a realistic-looking cartoon with a few real people acting in it.

I'm actually hoping this movie will live up to its hype. It's being made by living legend Peter Jackson, so I think we should not give up on it. I haven't actually seen the original film, because I hate old movies ( I know, I know... but I just can't stand black&white )

Dinosaurs: I just hope this won't turn into a Jurassic Park ripoff.
Effects: Honestly, the trailer shows some great work, but it's not realistic. It's fantastic, it's breathtaking, but it's not making me believe it's there, like it did in the Lotr trilogy for example. The dinosaurs look like wet plastic and you can notice from a mile away that the actors are in front of a green-screen for post production replacement with an island or sky.
Jack Black: My brain automatically asociates Jack Black with comedy. All during the trailer I found his lines funny ( though they're not supposed to be... ) "I've come into possesion of a map..." I was all starting to chuckle, expecting Jack to break into a joke or a stupid line... Hmm, bad choice of actor? Maybe. Let's wait and see his whole performance.

Anyway, here's my 5 cents on the movie.
