Hi, I need help with creating twisted wires. The result should look like the wires on the attached picture.
I am using 3ds max 7 and i have tried several techniques. I created 3 cylinders, than twist them and tried to bend them to shape I need, but I didnt get it. Than I tried to loft three circles along path and then twisted them...but the twist modified only 2 of them. Does anybody know some other way how to model it ? Thanks

you can use the helix shape[make it renderable]......then edit that...
or try to find a plug called [wirejumble]

make a cilinder with lots of height segments. convert it to an editable poly

apply a twist modifier

then select one edge ring it then loop then and select "create shape from selection"

than with the new splines you just create, make them renderable and make the radiuos higher.

make a spline with the shape you want the wires to bend, aply a path deform mod to the cables and select the new spline as the pad.
i hope i make my self clear, if not tel me and i can make a short video to explain it to you

cheers

Thank you guys. I found that "path deform" is very powerfull modifier. I didnt get the shape I need yet but I hope I will get it after some practise.

Is it something like this you are going for?

I did a similar thing with vines
http://www.john-con.com/missioncontrol/3d010.jpg

I made splines for the paths first, then made cylinders for each vine and then applied a Path Deform modiier to each cylinder. That way, you can control how far along the path each vine/wire is (I actually used this to make the vines "grow" along the paths in an animation) and you can simply edit the paths to change stuff. Also, you can apply space warps to the paths to do neat stuff (like how I made the vines grow around the sphere)

Buzzy - thanks, Im going to try it with path deform...when I find some free time
