i also think you can use a hair plugin like shag fur

I do think that is a tutorial somewhere on the site about that, I never read it though. You could try alpha mapping but I wouldn't think it'd look good for hi-poly.

there is a plugin for that with damnd good results but i cant find anything for max6...only for the old versions which doenst work...

i made some awesome grass with HairFX (there is also a tut that comes with the plugin) but it costs $600. But its awesome for hair, fur, and grass
