Haha, ya . Like the hips, if something looks like a block and simple it is usually just a place holder and a rough concept for working out mass and perportion. Detail will follow.

statichavoc, thanks

Mikutzu_2005, thanks but I have not started on textures yet. I just added matte color to help me see the design.

Nippur, I am gllad I am going in the right direction.

inspired, thanks man. THat is a great compliment. I have done a bit of work snense but I have not rendered it again. I have a few preview turn arounds but no web space to link them to.

Thanks. I feel a little crack baby with the whole thing. I have to rig it and then animate it, not to mention unwrap and texture, ouch. Its polies will have to be brought back under control. I know you can feel my pain.

I had to finish it rough and now I am returning to it for an animation. I split the rifle into two. One part per arm.

and the front. I have not done any textures yet. There are some rough colors on it but that is it. NO textures. It will be a KaKi with dirt and greese. He will have some bullet burns and propper insignias.

WOAH this is totally incredible. RickStefani you are really inspiring me to do better work after seeing this! What a fabulous design, do you know the poly count off hand?

Is there any chance that you'd eventually be able to post your rig? I'm currently working on a robotic model also, and I'd love to see how you rigged yours :)

DahWan

ok MAN youve got to learn me how to rigg... freaking awesome incredibly fantastic and etc. etc. etc.
donno how you do it... by the way, i really hope your using maya! =) ^^

RickStefani

admiraligor, thanks.

RodFlanders11, inspiration is the best form of compliment. I will post the rig later. The rig is only about 2K polies total. The smoothed version it runs is around 1.8 million tris but during the animation I will be able to play with the level of detail (smooth) as well as remove parts you do not see from the angle the camera will be at so the rendering should not be to bad. The rigg has a lot of wire peramiters so however I move the big arms and shoulder, the smaller arms follow. The hydrolics are look contraints. The tubes and ammo belt is a loft with the controling sply being skinned with a flew modifier to give it secondaries. THe armor plates have a reactor mod to bounce arounf. The antena also have a flex mod so the move freely. This thing has a lot of intricate moving parts and I may post a test latter to show the chest hydrolics/ control arms and cables moving,

DahWan, thanks. I hope the last bit answered some of your questions. The rigg is not totally done yet. I use Max because of the modeling tools but everything I have done can easily be done in Maya. Instead of wires you use Set driven Keys. Instead of flex you use giggle. SO on and So on. I like both programs but I find Max to be far supperior in the modeling side. Maya is easier on the animation side.

Rick,

Can you do a render of your power armour doing the "raise the roof" sign? Can I get a whoop whoop?

Thanks so much for the answer and detailed explanation RickStefani, you're helping me more then you know.

As I'm building my character I'm going to end up using hydraulics as well, and was really getting nervous about how to connect them to the rig (I've never made my own rig before, always used reactor lol). Watching you work on this is a gigantic help :)

Keep up the good work on your project!

Hey Matt. How are things going up in chicago? You have to change your profile.

RodFlanders11, damb, I cannot spell. I think that last post I did set a record. I am glad I can be of help. Maybe I should try reading what I wrote before hitting the POST button.

Here is the APC the quad will ride in. The first render is of it lowered and ready for more road speed. The second will be for tough terrain.

Wow!
Cool design on both the power armor and the buggy...
When I saw the topic "Power Armor" I immediatly asumed a Fallout power armor but that was not the case... Your's is still cool! Looking forward to the texturing!

woooow.... i love the APC, but i think (compared to the wheels) that the chassis is too clean... why not use a dirt shader?? =P
