yea nosa definitely leave the apron, it adds that extra character to the character :)
like the cuts in the apron too...i dunno know what else you can do to it

man nosa, your model looks great, kinda reminds me of dr.robotnic from sonic lol (havnt seen that in at least 11 years lol) any ways, keep it up guys, these are awsome.

nosaj462- great concept and model. only crit ive got is that you have more faces in the cylinders for the shoulders than you do for the forearm on the right arm.
it takes away from the continuity and looks akward.
once again though, great concept and model =D

Looking good nosaj462, how did you make the wire frame screenshot like that?
Cyrenn - Who's Fred Savage? :???: :)
I'll post my wip model up soon. :)

thx for all the positive feedback guys
triatami - ya i have noticed that about his forearm. I want to fix it but it may be more trouble than it is worth but i do plan to try and balance out that forerm and make it smoother. This is why i shouldnt have ussed all 5k tris...LOL
DaveUK - all that is is screenshots of max taken into PS and edited onto a background

Gah, you put up your model as soon as I signed off last night! :hmm:
Very nice, it's an excellent representation of your original concept. It's nice to see that you entire triangle budget, and the distribution seems quite good.
I'm still not crazy about the apron, but that's really just an opinion. I just think that it looks a little strange to have an entirely metallic character wearing a piece of cloth. The hair is looking kinda odd too. You have a relatively high-poly character with a bunch of triangles poking out of his head. Is there a more elegant workaround? Alpha planes maybe?
And the new entries are STILL coming in! I think we should have an entry thread where everyone is allowed a single post that they can edit to show new updates. That way you can just get a quick look at everyone's status. Is this possible, Cyrenn?

Dave_uk: hey dave i believe he rendered his character from different angles on a white background, and then he may have went into photoshop and combined all of his character's screen shot angles into 1....basically he took screenshots dave
:) hope that helped ya....
p.s.: the way you save a screenshot is by pressing the printscreen button on your keyboard...but first go to start....then select run....when you get the prompt to type in what you want to run type clipbrd then from there go to what ever program your using...3ds max, maya, etc....get what ever angle you want from your character then press prtscr button on the keyboard and now its saved onto windows clipboard and from there go to paint within windows and go to edit paste and there you go save it as a jpg and bmp !!!!...hope that helped....i hope thats what he did aswell :)

zcubed- yes i did consider using alpha planes at first. however i decided to go with a riggid metal hair. its intended to be sharp and riggid. however im rethinking now because if i went back to alpha plains for hair i would be able to use those tris i loose on the hair and maybe add to the forearm. I really dont want to do that but Im gonna look into it. The whole apron is supposed to be humurous. The character is loosely based off of leatherface. So..that in mind thats where the apron comes into play.

I think we should all write 3dtotal Staff to see if we can get our own thread on top so that everyone can start there individual thread under it: )
Maybe if we ask nicely the great staff at 3d total will let us have our own thread : ) I'm going to e-mail them: )
Well I just e-mailed Monte Cristo: ) I hope he might be able to help us with our problem of being over whelmed on this thread.

I think I'm gonna call this good for the actual modeling. I'm gonna try to find time to unwrap him sometime this week *crosses fingers* but I can't make any garuntees...
My lighting is pathetic... There is some detail inside the rocket boosters on the back, but it's all in shadow so you can't even tell - pft. heh... Well, it's not like it's much, and when I'm actually 'done' I'm gonna put a bunch of particles coming out of there so it doesn't really matter in the end.
Anyways -
Current progress:
(It's currently sitting somewhere around 4,800 tris)

Thanks for tips guys on the wireframe screenshot, it beats Vray wire render method :)
Here is my screenshot, am still going to tweak some bits like the eyes and then do a test rig, not sure whether to use biped or bones but rather learn bones.
Got to work all week plus my Bro's wedding on Saturday, not gonna have much time so I think I might just do some quick paintings on the colour style. :)

Also everyone thx to Monte this contest was able to get its own little section: ) This should help out everyone that wants to show there work in prgress without there post getting barried into the thread so soon: )
So if you guys want to start posting your individual thread that would be great: ) I'm still hoping to lock the main thread so that it doesnt get lost with all the new individual threads: )
Wizzo man came out just like your concept: ) Very cool, I really like the different style of concepts that everyone is coming up with: )
You still go some polys to spare: ) This is a suggestion: 0 Maybe add a cape on him one that might be shreaded at the bottom : ) or brand new LOL! either or: )
Man, this contest is really beefing up :)
nosaj462, Athey,Dave_UK: really good models you guys have, all of you of you really nailed down your concepts
Looking foward to seing them done.
lowlevel- for the renders i just put in a skylight and render with light tracer

hey congrats cyrenn :smug: glad to see the moderators saw you put something so cool together...something that got such a response. great job
evil-98: hey evil 1 thing you can do is maybe go through what ever 3D package your using and see if within the program they have a tutorial section, or maybe something that outlines how to locate or even skin your character with bones (thats 3Dmax terms)....or maybe do it the old fashion way and go online and find a quick tutorial on rigging, theres tons out there, member your not creating an animation, just putting your character in an action pose  hope that helped in some way
P.s not to plug 3dtotal :smug: but they have a pretty good selection of tutorials you can go through and a few on rigging aswell

Hey everyone: ) not to be a stickler, But Im getting a few request from other particpents, that they would like for all concepts to be posted before the intial model stages: ) I know some may not have scanners to do so: )
And after all this is all for mere fun: ) Just to make things fair for everyone, Lets try and get out concepts up: ) But in the case you dont have a scanner, feel free to post that on your thread: )
Thanks everyone: )

I will now deface this threed with my post. Since we seem to have to have a sketch, this is my silly attempt at a sketch of Blast man! He's a siege-style baddy adept at leveling buildings and firing rounds that can blast through several buildings at once (really cool effect. Probably wows little kids.)
Inspired by WWII artillery, he should be able to fire about five rounds before being completely out, which is enough for just about anything. Megaman might be able to take a shot or two from this before being completely obliterated. Kind of adds to the drama I guess.
However, BlastMan cannot reload his cartrages by himself. He needs the support of another baddie to reload them. Blastman is a terrible shot and is dumb as a brick, so he has trouble hitting moving targets. Frequently forgets what he's doing and even turns around while firing. Megaman cannot out-muscle him, but frequently outwits him or leaves him without ammo. Blastman is also slow to move due to having to make sure not to trip over himself. Cute!
Here's my horrendous sketch. I hope to upload an image of some 3d to try to make you all forget I ever posted it.

Quick Reply
If I have any time tonight, I'll be sure to put some more time into it. At the moment, I'm at work and I've got a philosophy paper to finish and an econ test to study for tomorrow. = \ However, the weekend looks free! =D
This is my first forray into the wild and wolly world of low-poly art, so I'm constantly petrified I'm going to go over budget and be kicking myself when I have to do it over again. ;) But I'm at about 1024 polygons so far, so I think I'll be able to finish with about 300 left over for detail and making neat shapes.

The list of entries just keeps growing! Welcome to the contest, Summers! We've got five thousand triangles to work with (Remember to count in triangles!), so you've really got no reason to start crunching numbers yet. My character is sitting at around 3400 and I can't think of anything to add! There's not much to see at this point, but I like the direction you're going in.
Keep it up.

Here's my final wire for the guy. I've got to split, but he's done. =D Rigged him up WAY late last night onto a biped so he can move around and be posed. Fun challenge- I just wish I could've put a little more time into him.
Glad I could ad 2480 polygons to the pile!

Hi! I might be a bit late here but I want to do one anyway.
This will be the first full character I make, but I think I can manage it. Rigging will probably be a problem for me though :S
I'm not much of a 2d-artist (especially with a mouse) but here's my concept sketch (I'll model him a bit more megaman-ish than the sketch) :
Cyrenn
28-10-2005, 01:36 PM
hey Thykka : )
Glad to see you on the thread. Ninjas alwasy rock : ) Im hoping to get mine rigged over again. Well just wanted to say welcome aboard: )
The Next contest will be after the judging: ) Not sure how many will finish there bot: ) Hope to see yours in the finals: )

hey Thykka : )
Glad to see you on the thread. Ninjas alwasy rock : ) Im hoping to get mine rigged over again. Well just wanted to say welcome aboard: )
Thanks Cyrenn!
I've finished the basic shape of my ninja-man. There's still a lot to tweak...
Currently it has 1212 triangles but I can easily trim a few off.
It really doesn't look like something from megaman but I'll try to fix it :S

Hey how much time do we have until the end of the comp? I'd like to start one but I dunno if it'll be worth the time to rush it...
Cyrenn
29-10-2005, 07:27 AM
I suppose Midnight on the 31st: )
I figured after the contest, all models that have been complete we should just post the final renders on the main thread. This way when the contest is done. We can post a simple voting box above on this thread.
Also to delete all the individual threads. This way we can make room for the next contest. Which I will be to make your own Metal gear solid lowpoly villian or hero I think: )
Also I think it might be a good idea to keep the contest one one thread. This way it will keep the thread alive. I suppose. As soon as we posted our models on individual threads the contest died alittle: (
Well I suppose my Bot is finished , so I'll go ahead and post him on the thread.
