Hi everyone,

The models from everyone this week are top quality, I didn't think I could make a fire extinguisher, but hey it wasn't too bad once I set my mind to it.

I Forgot all about this weeks challange till Tuesday,:wall: So this is probably the only entry I'll get to do

Anyway I hope you like it.

Modeling was no more than 60Mins, Texturing took a bit but the radiosity+HDRI Lighting was very time consuming to get right, hence the time. I know its all about the models, but I like to make it look nice :haha:

Here we are:

Wow, I was actually suprised that no one else made something like this... did I miss anyone's?

This is a P-3 orion built to carry a tank of Fire retardant. And yeah, the fire retardant has been photoshopped up, but the actual plane is my submission, and is untouched.

EDIT: Oops, forgot to turn off nurbs on the wireframe

Nice models there.

A shame, it seems, that no one liked my model much. *cries in corner*

Agamemnwn: Yea it takes time. Im a newbie on drawing my own textures and doing UV unwrapping and have just drawn my first real texture to my WIP so for me it takes alot of time :P

Vhector: or maybe maxaya =)

okay heres my entry this week, i wanted to design something for the home and thus made a more compact and smaller extinquisher, i made it rectangular so that when fixed to a wall it wouldnt stick out too far and thus making it nice for kitchens etc...also thought i would make it so that the cylinders inside could be replaced rather than the whole product. theres no pin i figure it would unlock the trigger when you lift up the nozzle hence the.... LIFT-POINT-PULL system. would liked to have added more detail but ran out of time. hope you like it and as always enjoy...

What is it? Its a portable firetruck with make shift firemen, the portable thing is entry, firemen are just to show how it works : D

Hi everybody!

Just wanted to tell you, that you're doing a realy great job with these extinguishers.
Great, and wonderful models there.
Unfortunately I will only get some time for my own tonight, so I will only be able to participate in the next challenge. But I wish you all good luck in the judgings.

Just a little list of some models that cached my eyes: (from the last to the first page)

Garner - really great textures.
R3D - very clean design. Good job.
Inklosed - very nice model
cptslog - great modelling. Very clean.
alidanesh - fantastic entry. I loved it! (#152)
sidaho - grat model, wonderful textures.
3D junior - great sprinkler. Cool textures.
Andoy - Wonderful model. It really looks like you bought it last week. ;P Great textures.
justo - fantastic! Looks like you took a picture.
adamos (#86) - great details.
OmegaN (#60) - Great as always.

Oh, an Mr, Marty McFly, You know what happend today? I was modelling a 3D jigsaw puzzle for a client, and as I was texturing it, strange things happend. My texture name was #MARTY! I think You are trying to dominate my computer. Do you have an aliby for your time about 15h? :hmm: :dunno:

Inklosed

mmmm....i should have read all the rules....shame on me.... "time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field."

so i want to change the time i gave to 15 minutes cuz thats the time i spent modeling the rest was playing with lights and HDRI maps

Thanks for the comments everyone, i loved all the entries very nice work

This was a great week. Lots of interesting models. Excellent work everybody. :D

cptslog - Nice fire hydrant! I think it's presented quite nice even without textures.

Inklosed - Your model and renders look nice! The wire is a little hard to see though.

-R3D- - Your model looks nice and the render is very good!

Garner - Interesting design and well executed! Both model and reader are very nice!

hammering3d - Thanks for the comment. I see you've done another fine job this week! :)

OmegaN - Thank you for the comment! You've got some nice entries this week yourself. :) The way you described how to make threading sounds similar to how I went about it.

I had actually looked around the web to see how others made threading before I did my model. Since I couldn't really find any tutorials then, I decided to go ahead and make a short tutorial of how I went about it with Truespace if anyone is interested. Although I think that most here are more than capable of figuring out how to do it, perhaps there are some newer modelers reading through. :)

thank you délé ...ye the wire is kinda hard to see but i can post some pics with wires so no problem there i gess...they were better but jpeg compression realy kills the quality :( ......i think we shoud post the 800x600 100kjpeg here and this is optional but we could give a link for a highrez one...what say you Black-3DT :)

mimi01:Thanks, but i am still awaiting your entry that stands out as a mimi entry.....
and that is not sucking up to anyone folks but i remember Black having some very distinctive entries as did Marty and Fastrak
I think some people here like octacon have consistently put in extremely good entires with a very distinctive style about them.
After all that is what art is all about... individuality.!!
Oh and i didn't mention Andy_K cos i have not seen any recent work from him but i am definatly sure that it would blow us away.... don't work so hard Andy and throw us some titbits every now and again..

Seems kinda hard to get any feedback on work unless it is already of outstanding quality. Then again, it might be because we're new here... Doesn't stop me from doing my best, though. ;p

Deto: nice idea, but The pumping guy would need some pretty big muscles, unless there is a motor put somewhere. Nice and efficient model.

Garner: Good metal. well thought out.and effective presentation.

viper-x-: The more you practice the easier it gets. very good for a first entry.

Jor-Dan: Good plane. I had considered the helecopter dropping, but I'm sure I'd need to do a few dry runs before I could do it in time.

R3D: Well done, Your hose texture is excellent. and your dial is great.

FairyTales: Afire hose with a pistol grip? I'm note sure how functional it would be, but it is a nice model. I've also never considered using a firehose on "Standard" before.

Julle: It looks like a portable one. though I'm not sure what the band is under the nozzle. Good job all the same.

OmegaN: Water tower? great idea.Definitly makeing the simple complex. well done sir.

Radulan: Thanks for the nice comment, it's actually based on a picture found on google Here (http://www.groupe-leader.fr/images/duojet.jpg). If i get it right the fire hose can work in two way, a high pressure (6 bar) which is the emergency one and a low pressure made to spread a kind of foam on fire (standard).

Another week and another model from me. I had to cancle my other render because I knew It would not finish in time (Skylight + Reflections + Skydome = 6 Hours) So I took out the skylight and went with a multicolor point light cloud which doesn't give me as nice a render but a much quicker one.

Make sure you grab this and not the propane tank, otherwise there might be trouble O.o

*Edit quick re-upload compession made faucet and valve look like solid peice so fixed it.

Thank you to people who have commented

AGMJ-sorry i haven't been able to reply quicker.
I used a shader off www.highend3d.com (a preset metals set thingy, can't remember the name, just search for metals).
I then added some handdrawn stuff for the wear 'n' tear :)

Used some basic Mental Ray settings, GI, FG and a couple of lights (ambient and omni i think) thats bout it really, ha ha.

~-~

Some really nice entries people,
would have liked to go into more detail like Hammering3d did (with all the names:)), didn't realise how much work college needs, ha ha,
should be workin now so good luck everyone and happy modelling!

Deto: hehe fun invention.

mimi01: thanks for the kind words.

Délé: thanks =) Yea that way of doing the threads was quite similar =) nice tutorial, explains much better with pics etc than some words here like mine explenation =)

Lighter: Thats the right spirit. The best way of getting comments I think is to give comments =)

Radulan: nice sprinkler. But I think its a little messy wire, but thats maybe just me :) thanks for the comment! New avatar eh? or is it just me whos beeing slow.

alidanesh: the scene have a certain feeling even tho its simple. nice!

This entry is a little inspired by Inkloseds little cute thing and I wanted to finish the model and render before the deadline so I did something little more easy to model this time :)

Some litle replays before the deadline sory for late replay's

ok..i was messing about really...i didnt think u would apologise so profusly. no harm done! :) I will txture it and repost and rough it up a bit.

I just know how it feel when nobody coment at u'r post, and I was sad I left U out from my big list :ugh:
And is ok to texture it and repost it till the dedline, ther are about 50 minutes left. But don't change anyting to the model cause is against the rules, Sorry for writing this so late, I did't chek but I hope U not repost the image with change in the model.

Leto - tnx alot
OmegaN - tnx for coments and yes the handle it's feel litle flat :o
andoy - tnx U verry much for this nice words and for much more ;) , U make me :o :o :o . Actualy in the past I'm not coment so much, and I hate miself for that, so like I promis I'll coment more and this week I start and I'll do that evry week.
agony - U post a wire in this post #252, and to bad that nobody tell U till now and now U'll have only 30 min till the deadline, but is ilegal to post the wire separate that the model, they must be in the same image.
Délé - Tnx alot, but actualy this week I'm a little disapoined buy my model, I don't like it to much.

Good luck people !!! and see U in the next Chalenge, I can't wait ;P
Less then 30 min remaining !!!

Hey guys! Well, this is my first post in the forum, although I've been watching the speed modelling challenge for quite some time

Well, this is also my first entry. I really didn't worry much 'bout the modelling, as a fire extinguisher is something quite easy to model. Texturing also didn't take that long :smug:. All I wanted was to post my first entry, hahaha. Hpe you like it.

Okay everybody... the deadline has just been reached.

Again you have presented a great set of models... pulling the standards higher each and every time!!

I have a little something I have in hand so there may be ten or so minutes delay on the new challange. But it shall be up very shortly!

Good Luck!

OmegaN - Yeah I'm sure it had something to do with the skylight I just haven't messed with them much in truespace yet so I wasn't sure what settings to tweak to keep my effect and lower the render time. In max I would have know though because I've used them before.

Délé
06-10-2005, 05:24 AM
Sydney075 - I used to like to use the skylight too because it does produce a nice image, but like you said the rendering is way, way too long. I've found IBL's to be a descent substitute. It can produce a similar result in a much more reasonable time. I usually use the "IBL 4 white" in the light library. I can't say that I'm an expert at it but if you would like I could send you a scene file or two if you want to see how I usually set it up. Feel free to email me at dele@deledesigns.com.

@ Iain = thanks for the comments the materials are simply hdri raytrace matariels, its just that sometimes it all seems to come together.

@ mimi01 = thank you as i said above, a little extra time tweaking the materials can do wonders for a render

@ Dele = thank you took me a week to come up with that design (jk)

@ Radulan = thanx for the comment...apreciated

@ OmegaN = thanx i had to really think the whole modelling process through as too what would be the fastest way to achieve the final result

and well done everyone another great week of models, and another week of showing us all how the proffesionals achieve there goals, i think i have learnt more in the last month from these challenges than i have the past year. LOL

Lighter,

It looks GREAT! Nice work on the extinguisher. Keep at it. Right now the tough part ( well, always really.. ) will be -keeping at it. Try not to let frustration ( or say, lack of feedback, etc. ) get you down. Looks like you are getting faster :)

Nice work!
