Hello there,
Thanks for the enquiry. The reason you are getting the error is because you are trying to open the file on an earlier version of Max than the one it was made in - the model was created in Max 7.0. We will post a link where you will be able to download a 3ds file which you can import into your version of max. If you can get a copy of 7.0 then you will be able to see the finished version along with the textures and animation. The 3ds file is a collapsed mesh and does not carry the animation but you can at least study the geometry. Hope this proves helpful and thanks for purchasing the DVD - hope it helps you to learn.
Thanks,
Rich.

If anyone else is having the Problem mentioned above then the .3ds file is included as a link below, and also a flash player movie showing you how to re-assign the 'missing' textures to the .max file. The missing textures can be located in the 'resources' section of the DVD and can be accessed via the interface or directly from the DVD itself.

the .3ds file (does not include animation) (http://67.15.36.49/ttr-3dsmax-v02/Fighter_Ship01.3DS)

How to Re-assign the Missing Textures (.swf flash player movie) (http://67.15.36.49/ttr-3dsmax-v02/Applying_Textures.swf)

Thanks.

Hi there, the artist who made this tutorial is away until 03 of Jan. Is it ok if he contacts you at this time?

Isn't it weird how post #1 and #4 are identical?

Regarding the DVD, you could make an edition for 3dsmax6, I don't know if it's that difficult. The fact is that sadly, not everyone can have the latest software. Anyhow, it's a great effort how you people present such detailed tutorials in order to teach the aspiring artists that shall rule the world of tomorrow.

Thanks for your kind words Freespace. Regarding the 3DSMax 6 issue, we cant possible make it available for all Max users with all of the different versions etc, but we do also have to make sure that the techniques we teach are not obsolete in 6 months time so we have to keep up to date. That is why Rich makes the tutorial models for 7.
