Hi, there's a small and easy to be fixed problem on your basic shape. I made the correction in orange on the attachment. This part should be separated from the chair as it's a pivot to make the chair fold like when you take it with you too the beach :)

This actually looks pretty cool. Could you post a bigger pic of the fineshed model so we can see the texture?

First you go and find youself a better ref-picture and pay attention to the smallest details, then you make a search for uv-mapping +maya. Good luck

Have you searched here? (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=uv-mapping+maya&btnG=Search)
Btw. the uppdate looks good but the chair does not look so comforteble. *spell*

Yeah dahWan, it looks pretty nice....but I think you'll find that there is no center bar....you can see in your ref pic how the material of the chair actually hangs down and there is no bar proping it up like in your model (as well as having a bar there would be pretty uncomfy)
The part where you have a bar is probably just attached to the ends of the chair to allow it to rotate., rather then being one large bar running across the entire length of the chair.

Remove the center bar that I highlighted. It should not be there, and isn't there in your reference picture. This is why the chair looks uncomfortable.

Hey DahWan, sorry for the late reply. The chair is looking accurate now (with the exeption of the thing that Puckducker mentioned), good job :D
For UV wrapping in Maya, maybe you can check here:
http://www.learning-maya.com/index.php?option=com_bookmarks&Itemid=36
It says it has 40 UV mapping tutorials, I haven't checked them, but maybe you can find something you like :)

i find this object impossible to UV map. it is like a million errors! the geomitry is perfect, but errors is everywhere anyways. and i have stayed away from booleans.
can anyone try for me?
the most enoying error is that whatever i select the moving, scaling and rotating tool stays somewhere else. in this case, in the midle of the grid. help me plz =(

You need to center all your pivots....and why not create the textures yourself? Creating red and white stripes should be pretty easy to do in any program, even paint.
