The rules are simple

1, Each week we'll post a subject for you to model along with a time limit on how long you should spend on it. Spend no longer than the allocated time then post a render of your model. No cheating, we are relying on your honesty here and the idea of speed modelling is to simulate a "real world" environment. If you are working on a project and asked to show a concept model you'll need to be able to get somewhere near the target in the allocated time. Your submission should be a model created especially for this challenge and not one you have stored on your hard drive.

How you interpret the brief is up to you as long as the final model conforms to what we have asked for. Any images of models that do not match the brief will be removed and the poster disqualified

2, You may enter as many times as you like as long as each model is completely new and uses no components from other entries. Entries using models which are not original will be removed and the poster disqualified

3, Your entry may contain as many views of your model as you like but it must include a clear and easy to see wire frame of the mesh before any smoothing/subdivision has been applied. Please use a screen grab. No other method is acceptable and any "wire renders" or wireframes we can't see properly will be removed and the poster disqualified

4, You must include the following details with each submission: software used and time spent creating the model. Any further information is voluntary but posts not containg the required information will be removed and the poster disqualified.

5, Post only one image submission per entry which must be no larger than 800x600 pixels in either landscape or portrait format with a file size of no more than 100k. These images must be uploaded to our servers using the "browse" button on the forum reply page. Do not link to external images Files. larger than the maximum size or posts containing links to external images (other than for reference materials) will be removed and the poster disqualified

6, time spent on rendering or texturing or building a scene in which to display your model is not included in the alocated period to allow those with slower machines to participate on an even playing field. What we are looking for is the quality of the models you can produce "under pressure". If your model is not complete, you can still post as long as it's recognizeable.

These rules apply to everybody taking part there will be NO exceptions

This weeks challenge is actually one of our two week ones so you have plenty of time to be creative.

You have two hours to create a charicature/cartoon of yourself, hence the title "mini me"
Little Adition;
The subject stays as it is... but we have decided to broaden the scope a little as most of you already know.
As you are able to do a mini version of yourself. You are also able to model out one of the members from the forum. This brings two aditional rules to the game though:
1_The person you model out HAS to be a member in the Threedy forums.
2_If the model you make of another person is too offencive, she/he holds the rights to ask us to remove the image. No questions asked (But this will not disqualify you). So please be respectful to not have your hard work go to waste.

Have fun and let's see some great entries

Andy, Black, Marty and Fastrak

Time limit - 120 minutes
Deadline - 22.00 G.M.T. Wednesday 16th of November 2005

Very nice topis, if i may ask the entry should be only a model of me in cartoon or realisitic or i have to post me as a model and another one as the mini me?

bobi
03-11-2005, 02:15 AM
What is mini me?

Some kind of creature?

I saw in some stupid movie(it's popular movie, but I forgot it's name) a sick&small grotescue character, named mini me.
Althrought, moderators wan't model anymore the examples, I think it's cool to tell more presisly what is the new subject, and keep in mind that moust of the people in here are not from England, or America, or Australia, Canada...
Hope you will understand...

don't know what is mini mi, don't think it's someting special, we just have to caricature ourselves in some "mini" form ?

Now the time limit is 120mins and not 60 mins.

And U have 2 weeks, and not one week,

And U must create a charicature of YOU,

A funny, deformed, distorsioned representation of U

Mini ME meens something like ... MINI YOU ... A LITLE CLONE OF U ... in the Movie Austin Power the mad scientist (Not Marty ;P) have a litle CLONE of him, that he caled MINI ME.

here U can see the scientis and his clone (MINI ME):

just to clarify we are looking for you to model a three dimensional cartoon style version of yourself.

Mini Me was just an example, he pops up in the Austin Powers movies :)

It's not that we don't do examples any more it's just that sometimes we are too busy to get one done

Anyway, good luck to everyone.

Wow, this one will be a toughie. All due to the fact that you KNOW what you look like so you'll be able to see all the flaws you model as you model LOL

Should we post a reference pic in order to judge how accurate the modeling IS to the real you ?

On an related note, you shouldn't have any issues finding any reference material :D

Black has suggested a lovely little twist for next weeks section of the challenge so photos are a very good ideaGuess I have to now mention about the twist as well now don't I?

Okay folks here's the new deal... As a result you can do only one model of yourself for the weeks competition no matter how long it takes you to capture the essence and simplify it good enough to model in the given time.

So to introduce a bit more VARIATY to the week. We have ddecided that you can model a cartoon character of one of the other members as well!

Now there is going to be a few rules attached to that in order to keep things from getting complex.
1 The person you are going to model HAS to be a member from here.
2 After all there is a case of respecting the person you model out. Shall he or she request that they feel insulted your entry shall have to be removed (Not necessarily disqualified though)

You CAN ask for permission first or you can suprise them.. your choice.. but shall any one be disturbed... feel notified that you may have worked for nothing.

Now concider this also as to be a call out for those that especially do NOT wish to be modeled out.
If you don't feel comfortable with giving someone the freedome of modeling you. Please answer to this post.
Friday I shall update the rules page with the list of people that refuse to be modeled as well as this little adition. Until then just try capturing your mini version of yourself! :)

Best of luck!!

Black

Ps:
Yes you can also model out moderators... Don't know about the other moderators... But I pesonally don't mind shall you choose to humiliate me. Go wild if you care to waste your time such. :hurt: (Tip... be careful with Marty.. he does the judging you know :) )

sounds like a lot of fun for this weeks challenge.

Black, should we post a pic of ourselves with our render or by itself, so that other people can model us?Hmmm ... It seems that it will take a lot out of the image size we are permitting you to go for.
You may post it seperately or together. The model itself shall not exactly be judged by it's convincing realness.. it shall be more judged by the humour you manage to capture. So try to catch something that is sort of unmistakably you as a priority.

Some of you may be especially asked to provide a ref image as the week goes. But unless it shall be the case It seems better to not make it obligational.
It would be col to put a face on some of the names though :)

As for those that think they should/could post a picture of themselves for others to model them from:
you can if you want to.. It would give those intended to get an idea.

The thing about modeling a member is that you can actually get away with their avatars up to a level with some of them... or you can simply ask them for a picture. Through here or a private message.
In the case of modeling a member, you just have to convince us that you have captured something that would describe that individual thoroughly.

I definately plan on joining in on this with you guys. This will be an interesting two weeks for sure. Before anything was mentioned about modelling someone else I was thinking about such a thing, I'm glad Black and Andy have added that nice touch.

For those that wish to model me (as if anyone would want to do that), you're more than welcome to... but be warned... for as Black noted... I do judgings too....

Black
03-11-2005, 04:16 AM
Actually for those that have been following up on the earlier weeks...

There has had been a mention of a subject that shall be fun but very difficult if you remember. Well this was the subject in mention. We postponed it to try and find a way around the challange being too impossible.

A particular model has been modeled out through a few attempts to configure the duration we shall demand... (Which was definately not an hour). I'll try and post that one for you guys as soon as I get back to my HD.

I've been planning on doing one of these..
It'll be nice to have it on hand, afterall it will give me a realistic stock head to eventually change for possible characters.

BTW, I have no problem if anyone else wants to use my head to do their entry. in fact here is me.

(Perhaps i should've comed my hair better before getting the pictures taken. and if anyone knows some intelligent women in Florida....)

Aogor
03-11-2005, 05:22 AM
I'm a very shy person. But I tried to model something that reminds me. I also tried to use a style near the Family Guy Style. The title of this entry should be "Maya user worried about the recent Autodesk's aquisition." :smug:

eagle4
03-11-2005, 05:28 AM
Aogor you shouldnt be worries about the recent aquisition of maya by autodesk, look at this the logical way, maya is being used my HEAPS of places all arorund the world, there would be no reason why autodesk will kill of maya, no reason at all, you may find that in probably a few years time, probably 3+, you may start seing both apps getting many of the same features, but maya will still be maya. also Autodesk spends reduculous amounts on R & D each year which means that maya will benefit from this as much as max

now why are you worried?

Nice to see that some one its work insted of talking. Good to go Aogor.
But now its time for me. Its more or less me i`m skiny bold and most the time i have glases on my nose (-0,5), thats all.
Modeling time:1:40 min (its a lot of work to put those vertex in a right place)
Software: Max 6.0
BTW:
#1. good lack to all you modelers out here
#2. ye my nose its realy that big, i hate it ;P

Aogor
03-11-2005, 05:52 AM
first: this week I'll use a photo as my avatar.
Second: Eagle4, I'm not worried. That was something that I used to explain that expression of my face in the drawing. Just this, nothing more.
Third: Adamos, your first entry this week is fantastic. Very good job, man.

Hmm..
I've been working on a 3D cartoon version of myself... I've spent well over 8 hours on the head!!!
I guess if I'm going to compete in this one, I'll have to make a much simpler version.
Oh, anyone who wants to model a kind of chubby girl with glasses and a shaved head is welcome to model me. In this photo I have the perfect haircut to be a 3D model :)

Great to have a charismatic face now to attach to all those charismatic characters! It's good to know that so far all is sport!

Radulan;
Thats some very useful refference! Thanks behalve of everyone. (Sorry, I don't know too many girls that would deserve you from that area :( )

Aogor... Thats a good idea. Changing your avatar for the week I mean.

Adamos;
Hey at least you have a very smooth skin!

Don't demoralise Kate; ... Attractive women have always been hard to capture in a 3D model :)

Well all in all; good luck everyone!

Old_Nick;
The time limit was extended in aid to permit you guys to model out a descriptive portrait or to at least have enough time to present a full figure.

You can model out even a pair of baggy eyes and lips if you look too much like Mic Jagger. Or you can go into detailing the whole character as much as your time will allow you. Your call.

As most of you already know by now: the rigging is independent from the given time limit. You may rig your model after you have modeled it out. But it is fatal that we know what you have modeled prior to the rigging. So at least your wire has to be in the default pose.

Good Luck!

good work everyone so far.

well here it is, yes it's very crappy, but it is also my first ever attempt at a head. it 'somewhat' resembles me, but i was semi happy for my first attempt ever at a head (note i didn't use any tutorials or anything, totally my own 'method' which prolly explains the crapness lol)
i also had most of it modelled really quickly, and was texturing/adding/correcting small details in the second.

Hey, some nice models already! I wouldn't have thought so soon.

Ok, I'll take one for the team, lol. :) Here are my reference photos if anyone wants to model me.

Some things you should know: The photos are of horrendous quality because all I have is a very cheap web cam right now. Also, the photos are black and white so I should let you know that I have red hair and bluish/green eyes. I always wear pajama pants and a plain white t-shirt.

I can assure you that I will not be offended by anything modeled. So if you model me, feel free to take any artistic liberties. :) It's all in good fun. :)

Antievo-3DT
03-11-2005, 09:02 PM
Ok, now... This is my first attempt.
The first head I have ever made, and it does not look that grate, lol.
I had some problems in the UVW Unwrap as well, but...
Well, I will overwrite this with a better entry later :D

Model in 3D Studio Max 7.0
Model: 120min
Unwrap/textures, ect: 20min
Render: About 1min (VRay)

Radulan
03-11-2005, 09:22 PM
Actually I did shave, which is why I didn't feel like putting it on. BTW, the mustash and beard combo is called a "vandyke". (Even though alot of mistakingly call it a goatee. Goatees have no mustash)

Antievo: I like the fact that you ise uv mapping to do the texture, I was considering doing the same, but since I have glasses... it might make it more difficult.

Krave: It looks like you made your's by altering a sphere. I find it more realistic to build it up a few faces at a time, though I'll admit it takes practice. I look forward to your next entry.

PKT: Shame that your face and head don't quite match.. the face should be scaled up a bit, also believable cheeks can be triky, great try.

adamos: Great characture. Though I'm curious to see you do a photo-real one. :)

Thank you Antievo, Rooky and Makonde for the nice comments(the hair is made with Ornatrix btw).

I'm convinced that I usually annoy people with corrective details in every subject we get into. I really don't know how my wife is able to live with it.

Nuf said... Happy Birthday to you and success with your year to come.

Depistado;
Hmm you are going to have to wait for Marty's picuters... My cousine used the hair-drier Marty had sent her on him... He REALLY has to do something about that hair first.
Actually Marty, just post a picture like it is.. this is as a result a competition to make a cartoon you!

You guys are doing fantastic! ... with the modelings and the spirit! It is starting to seem like I will only be altering the rules page to add in the bit about the mini-member and not a list of people that wish to not be modeled out.

Good Luck!

Right Black, i think that this week its gona be more about talk and photos than modeling challege, and Its not good i think

Black
04-11-2005, 02:25 AM
This is where quality really challanges quantity.

I have modeled out peoples heads (and even helped construct photo generators on the subject) for some time now. And I can say that for even my self or many at a simiallar level or higher; it takes much more time and construction to bring out a head that ressembles some one than it does to create a convincing randome head.

A good majority of models... especially organic ones... suffered greatly from a lack of pre-calculated effort. And we intended on forcing you this time to do a model; look back at it and do it again if necessary in order to both be able to fit into the time frame and also get a chance to re-examine bits and peaces.
Even for those of you who have always modeled their entries such, this will be a very good exercise.

While deciding on the subject title we did not expect an overflow of enties.. but definately a lot of sweat.

And hey... you have to admit that it is fun.

Black I make it a sort of point to know a little about everything... kinda funny that way.

Oh yeah.. it is my B-day.. well not in the USA yet... which is what counts for me... Thank you guys for the well wishing... Now if only I didn't have so much due this week. Yeah.. I'm gonna crash this weekend.. lots of laying around and putting the feet up. Maybe even get other people to cook for me...

Not only Have I found that artists are the worst judge of their work, but I think people are also the worst judge of their own looks. And if that is true I must be a knockout. ;)

Great model Mimi01

Hi all, so funny challenge these weeks I really like to participate  if I can do one & if find enough time to do :grr: , anyway I like this topic because it is funny, creative and unusual :D + hard :wall: .
Anyway, I put some pictures of myself here, I take them quickly with a simple web cam therefore excuse for low quality instead of that I compose some of theme in different poses that taken randomly and I put half of them, here.
Please note that my whisker isn’t in this form usually :haha: , I shave them totally always but today is in this form just to vary :dunno: & I haven’t time to correct theme!!! :grr: , I need to sleep now for a meeting tomorrow  , also excuse me for my clothes :( as I say I’m going to sleep! Whether or no you can model me with these whisker & clothes even, if u want! :o
Ok, now I’m in the photoclub so feel free to model “mim mini em”! ;P if you want, just be creative!

Details : .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..
Eye color: nut brown.
Hair color: dark blonde.
Trait: I have a little big nose!

Thanx to all, “mim.Armand”. :max:

hmm, yes. now if ur modeling a head, it is hard to make people be able to tell it is you. especially with my poor head modeling skills...(this is a thinker) i made several bodies and heads, so that i ill get up the speed in making the final one of me later hehe.

Black
05-11-2005, 04:21 AM
Hey folks.. I know this is going to be my typical pickiness.

But unless the only reason you are posting a picture is for you to be able to help us compair your submited model to the original you... you may want to take Radulan's post as a good example. It is much easier for others to reffence from.

Another fantastic example wood be mood shots presented by Mim. They don't get too much better than that (Maybe a side view too :) )

Well any how, as mentioned before... Photo's are not obligational. It is a volentary act. So do as you please.
Just please care to keep this thread from becoming like the "show a picture of yourself" thread that Sessy seems to have dominated. The photo's are 'modeling intended'.

Marty;
Model Marty good!.. Take my warning serious. He is a dangerous moderator now!

Good Luck everyone!

Mm no not necessarily Adamos.

Since it was not stated in the rules to obligationally post a photo with your entry... Your entry passes by me.
How ever as Design put it.. we have nothing to compair it to. Nor does the judges. So it may be to your advantage or disadvantage to add a photo as well.

If you are ok with posting your photo. It can only help, and it would be cool to see what you look like :).
But you won't be disqualified if you don't.

I have to rave for a sec here...
This was absolutely the most fun I've ever had doing one of these challenges, and it made me work in a completely different way than I would normally. I'm actually really happy with how it came out :o I've been trying to do a cartoon version of myself for ages, but this one is so much better than any of the others. I think the time limit really helped. Normally, I model heads using face modelling (one poly at a time), but this time I had to use a sphere to get it done in time. The body started as a spline model for the torso and I went from there. Anyway, this was so much fun. [/rave]
I'll definitely go back and finish it later. As you can see, I ran out of time and had to scramble to make hands, feet and glasses. (Yes, the feet are squashed spheres. I only had a minute left!) So glad I shaved my head
I posted my pic before, so you can tell me if it looks like me. I'm sure if anyone I know saw it, they would know it was me immediately.
Sorry for going on and on... I'm just very excited and deliriously tired.
Here's Mini Kate:

Well guys... I finally have something worth posting. If any one's interested, my pics can be found here. (http://www.filefactory.com/get/f.php?f=6c3a17f4b6334772d9aabbbc) Now for my image, I spent the whole 2 hours on the head. The hair was done after the 2 hours and many many test renders! As you can see... he has no ears... I'm thinking about completing them and adding them though. But for now, I think I need a rest. Also... for any one interested... I made another render of something that came up in my mind when creating my Mini-Me... you can find it here. (http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/8604/marty202green5jc.jpg)

Edit: I reworked the hair a bit more... so I'm linking the original image I made here (http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/8476/marty202final9bp.jpg) and the newer alternate version here (http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/949/marty202green27mk.jpg) .

And here is another me. I like this one better, though I'm still planning on doing a cartoony and full body one..
Oh.. and yes the time surprised the heck out of me too. I guess it's because I knew what I needed to do after doing it once before.

Well, now i decided to use dragon ball as inspiration for my modelling. I used to like that anime serie. And I tried to use fur making my short hair. I think its is not that bad.
Jor-Dan: Quagmire? Yeah! Kig-reeh, Kig-ree, Kig-ree!
This time, I think my mini-me is a bit more handsome. Not so ugly as that
Quagmire. But you Know. More ugly more funny.
Radulan: First, Happy birthday! Second, Very good model, but I think blender hasn't rendered very succefully. The textures look like texture of nintendo 64 game characters.

Hello guys!

Here is a caricature mini-omegan. This is probably the hardest challenge so far, and for my entry I have spent much time on premodelling (model heads so I get a fast workflow). I dont know how many heads I modelled before this but quite a few. I broke down the modelling process in 30min for the body and 90 min for the head. The hardest part with this challenge is to get the model actuall look like someone wich I never have done before and that was quite a challenge, dont know if I got it this time eather =) Hope you like it. Ps I didnt have time or the energy to rig this guy so the picture looks quite booring.

Aogor: cool, i like the second one the most. have a nice cartoony touch!

adamos: nice head. You look like an smart professor of some sort :D

PKT: cool, i like the texture.

Radulan: nice entrys both of them, they both look like you =)

krave: hehe unique modelling. It looks a little like a cute monkey (no hard feelings I hope, just the model looks a little like that) =)

Antievo: nice model =) Just the lightning that feels strange (or maybe its the texture that is oversaturated).

mimi01: nice one. you nailed the eyebrowns! I like the cool hairstyle =) Nice that you took the courage to model more than just the head.

arkadius: really detailed head there, gj.

Ferron G.P.: hehe diffrent rendering =) btw you better check the rules on size of the picture , it should be 800x600

altus: I dont know if its fits in cartoony or caricature, but It a very good modelled head.

mim: haha many references. If I do one more entry, ITS GONNA BE YOU!

RockstarKate: one of the better cartoon style models here. Nice that you made the whole body, its appriciated =)

Marty_McFly-3DT: hehe marty you sure can make models look evil!

Orkron: cant say its that bad, maybe a little rough edges and maybe should have rounder chins, but who cares :D . And you sure have catched a nice expression there. I wont mention the mouth texture ;)

artecnl: hehe actually I think that one looks scary. Little like the doll "chucky" or whats the movies name. Nice with a little scene that resembles what you like to do =)

Omega N: very nice model, guy. Rigging the model would be very nice. However, to me, this part of work is too hard. I stop working with 3ds because of this. So I started working maya. But I'm not good on rigging yet.

For this model I used my real style. Not too realist, not too cartoonish. I've used maya paint fx for the hair instead of the fur node of my last entry.

- RockstarKate - realy nice model, simple, but nice - I can feal the character of it. Like it a lot.
- Marty - Whoaa... Joker from Batman? ;) Looks good.
- Orkon - Not bad, but I think that you should work a little bit on your Wire, make it more anatomical (in bouth entries)
- Artencl - wow, It looks like a person who like to drink some or drink a little some more... ;) This eyes ;)
- Radulan - Nice, it looks similar to you. Good work, but the render is really bad ;(
- Aogor - Thx man :) Nope, I use only box modeling with polymodeling, actually I don't use the other types at all :) I like you Dragoonball entry more, It has a nice cartoon style. The last one is IMHO to... hmm.... sweet like boys band :>
- Omegan - Thx man :) Nice wire of your head, but the rest of the body have some bugs - It's to flat in first place... But nice work on cartoon style.

Thanks Antievo and PKT :D

arkadius: yea the body is buggy and not perfect forms (like to thin, the breast is aligned with the shoulders wich is not the case IRL, just made it like that because it was alot faster :P) etc but consider the whole body with fingers, legs, pants is made in 30 minutes, theres really no time for much vertex tweaking, so thats the best I could do in given time :D but thanks for the critique

These pics are open for anyone to utilise, i am sorry there are no full length shots but i have to leave a bit to your imaginations....
The best front, side and 3/4 shots i could find on my HDD and for anyone interested the woman is my Thai wife.
Enjoy them and do with them what you want, i am very open minded and shall take no offence so long as all is within the spirit of the challenge. I do hope to participate this week but time is tight for me right now.

Marty I have ALREADY modeled you out! And I have to say that I really feel your pain. You ARE a devil to model.
A little advice for those that tend to model Marty from the photo's he has provided... apply a spherical distortion on the front view photo to fix the lens distortion. His lips and nose make more sence then :)

But since you were not conciderate enough to take off the hat to begin with. You are going to have to live with a model of you WITH a hat :p

Thanks guys... I was almost sure you wouldn't mind. But it would only be fair to ask you first. I really enjoyed this weeks challange as a challange for myself as well. And would be honoured to add you two in my collection.
Juha, It seems I am getting my data recovered by mid of this week (Darn is this whole thing getting expensive!). I'll complete and send you guys the photo-realistic one then... but will be starting on the less demanding cartoonish model very shortly. Don't forget that you still owe me a high res texture shot of you two :)
Andoy, these will definately do for now (They realy compliment your sofisticated looks).
Actually any simple photo or even sketch is enough to extract a character once you get used to it. the better the refference the less the work. You my friend are worth the work, so don't get in a squeeze to provide better photo's.

I guess it is now time to PM Lestat and ask if he is ok with it.

Adamos;
Hmmm lets see now... a member with beautiful green eyes...

(Whew) I hope this still counts. I would gave him some hair but I ran out of time. Design is an excellent subject, He reminds me of actor Arnold Vasloo. I hope he likes this.

One of the problems that I had and see a bit on others is the idea of the cheekbone. The cheeks protrude from the face some to help complete the area around the more sunken eye.

Jediego: good first try. You face does seem a little flat though, you could make the sides of the face go back a bit sooner.

Sculptorwanted: The resemblance to design is great. Did you creat a UV map for the whole head? If so I'd like to see the Texture map. I have been thinking of trying to turn my ref photos into something I could map.

nice model sculptorwanted.

I just must ask you mods here.. the rules states "You have two hours to create a charicature/cartoon of yourself" .. And I just wonder if the "normal heads/bodys" is allowed, because there is a few entrys now wich dosnt have eather charicature (wich means ridicule, parody, exaggerated or distorted picture of the subject) or cartoon style. Just wondering so ppl dont mess upp like with the fish challenge and the info gets out in the end of the challenge =)

Did the best I could.
If try doing the next one in Z-Brush it will probable look better.

Well it's interesting that you mentioned that OmegaN... for I was just thinking about the same thing. Although I'm not going to personally speak for Andy, Black or Fastrak... I can at least give an opinion from my point of view.

The subject is to make a charicature... actually... the exact quote from the first post of the challenge says: You have two hours to create a charicature/cartoon of yourself, hence the title "mini me"

So as a judge... that's what I'm personally going to be looking for. I've noticed that there are a few entries that seem to be less charicature/cartoony and more semi realistic. Although they may be modelled very well, I don't see them getting too far in the judgings. So be warned... we are looking for silly, funny, exaggerated and such types of entries. (Or at least that's what I'm looking for.)

But no one should really worry too much because we have plenty of time to get those silly entries in. So get to work people... let's start seeing them models! :D

But since you were not conciderate enough to take off the hat to begin with. You are going to have to live with a model of you WITH a hat :p

Black

Take off my hat!?! But then you'd see my head! Hmm... now that I think of it... I don't think I have many pictures of me without a hat... That's quite interesting. It must mean something... but I'm not sure what. Hmm... I wonder... do I even have a head?

Radulan
07-11-2005, 10:35 PM
Well, I guess I'll have to get a little sillier... But I just wanted to go to one end of the spectrum before hitting the other.

Thx marty for the quick reply.

sculptorwanted oh sorry if I made it sound like an "attack" on your entry. Now when you mention it, by just using another shading technique same model can look more cartoony. I just had to state for everyone so ppl model the right thing. So its not ending up like the fish week when one started model a cartoon fish then many others did the same, just to find out the same day the challenge ends that all cartoon style is a DQ because it was supposed to be a realistic fish as stated in rules.

Design
07-11-2005, 11:11 PM
Marty it is good you posted that now because im working on a realistic version of my self. since minime is the clone of Dr.Evil in austin powers, where it went wrong and he came out so little, so i thought it is allowed to clone our selves. and by clone not cartoon.or charicature. a real clone.
SculptorWanted buddy i would love it if you could do me again on z brush, and yeah go wild make it really silly. i dont mind.

Well, this didn't really turn out looking like me, but I knew I couldn't model the face and still do the body in 2 hours, so I attempted the head from a very primitive standpoint and just kinda had fun. Gerald Marvin Weinberg ('Jerry') - author and teacher of psychology and anthropology of computer software development.

I do feel way better today...I'm on hour # 24 right now - It's been litterally 24 hrs since I last threw up (yuck, sorry) - So I would say ya, I'm cleansed, and my stomach hurts from all the "excersise" it got...The worst thing was sitting in my house for 16 hrs, not able to do anything, just sitting there watching tv, my legs hurt so bad from inactivity yesterday.

We want you guys to present a cartoonish model this time.
Even though there is going to be a very subjective view on what is really cartoonish enough... those that don't present charicaturistic proportions in their entry will be concidered in not obeying rule one concerning the loyalty to the concept. And thus, shall be disqualified.
Please be careful.

these are just to show Black that I actually do have a head under my many hats!Lol... It is not important to have a head under your hats.. it is important to have a head on your shoulders! :p

It's too late for my part any way. You are already finished Marty. Might be of use to others later on.

Leaving little time for me to be able to have other goes on Antievo and Rodulan (So sorry guys) as well as have decent preperation for modeling out Mimi.
Since it was a one day run; I had to go only for those that had a front and a side picture posted. Didn't have the time to sketch out a temp ref for the side views :(

Well-

This is attempt numero uno. Though it is automatically DQ'd since I exceeded
the time limits. Was modeling along got it to where I thought it was decent
and glanced at the clock. First thought was ' NO WAY ' went around checking other clocks in the house. My how time flies. . . . . .

Thought I'd throw it up here though just to let you all know I'm still alive :)

Been watching another training DVD on XSI. This time from Gnomon Workshop. I will say this. Aaron Sims is THE man when it comes to XSI. Watching him is simply a two hour lesson in humility. Though he DID open my eyes to the Prop tool in XSI. Gonna have to really start playing with that one. . . .

Anyhoo. Here is the first run. Will likely come up with another before the competition is out. Providing I can keep it under the time limits. I apologize for the dark render, will definitely get that issue under control on next attempt.

Krave: Hehe... I guess you didn't notice that when I edited your post I mentioned that... You're more than welcome to make another entry, just please review the rules before entering.

DahWan: Hey bud, just take a few mintues of your time to look through the posts in this thread. You'll find that I posted links to about 5 or so pictures of myself for people to model from.

Everyone: I notice it's a bit quiet lately... I hope this means that everyone is hard at work making fun charicatures of themselves. ;) I'm almost done with another model... although this one really took on a life of it's own!

RockStarKate Thank you for those words. your model was an inspiration. i mean i did it and tried to get the same effect of your model.

Marty your right, it is quiet, but i got to say this challenge although it looks easy it is one of the most difficult that i have been in.charicature is a very tough type of art. but still i learned alot of my model. and i guess the people are going through the same hard time ive been in.except for adamos
& Radulan.

Quiet yes :)

Seems I am unable to produce anything that passes even my simple requirements within the two hour limit :) That and the fact I've been working on another model doesn't leave a lot of time for this challange :)

In the event I can scrounge some time up, I'll try another.

You would hope. but personally, I'm no good at organic modeling at all... I cant even make a charicature that looks like me, although, it would help if I had some sort of hair plugin cause I have long hair.

so anyway, Great entries from everyone this week... wish I could model even just my head. :wall:

p.s. Marty, i think you may have misunderstood Krave, I believe he wanted to know weather or not he can still post that same image, but just not as an entry...

Marty_McFly-3DT
12-11-2005, 01:07 AM
Ahh yes, I see what you mean about Krave's question... and it looks like you're right. For that I'll just say that it's more perferred if a link to pic is posted to the pic instead of posting the pic itself if it's not actually a part of the challenge.

As for you Frost... I'm one of the last people here that would consider himself an organic modeller. Although I am trying to learn... organics still scare me, but that's no excuse. Give it a try, find a few tutorials and use them as guides. You'd be suprised how much they can help, especially if you do them a couple of times. :)

Thanks for the compliment. I wish I could help, but I don't have it down to a science yet. if I can think of a good way to explain organics and head modeling... then I'll post it in the forum. As of now I still just feel my way through it. Practice is all I have right now.

Things have been very unfotunate in my un-virtual life and thus I have not been as able to follow up on things. I am sorry about that folks...
But there seem to be a lot of entries that miss out on the rules.
PLEASE keep your hard work from going to waste and read the rules and check on your models people.
(Or at LEAST change your post as to be a 'non-entry')

Tomorrow I finally get a break. I hope to finally pose and render the models I did earlier and do a few more... Hopefully I could join in to the fun a bit.

Well any how.. back to work here... Good Luck!

Hehe.... people must've gotten my late shipments of vacuums this week. As for me, well today was strange day for me. But I'm posting a model that I wanted to post up yesterday but for some reason haven't had the chance to post until now. And as a bonus, there is a small animation file posted of my non-entry aswell. The non-entry is below... and the video file is here! (http://www.filefactory.com/get/f.php?f=5887ed7b0166703535432f69) (By the way, the video is 1.54MB and was encoded with DivX) :D

Well kinda.....cartoonish would be more fitting. A caricature definition is:
A representation, especially pictorial or literary, in which the subject's distinctive features or peculiarities are deliberately exaggerated to produce a comic or grotesque effect.

Hope that helps.

This evening I came home with some very bad news so I doub't I will have chance to have some fun, and I still haven't rigged the other guys :(
But I will definately try and model an old frined :) I hope you won't have high expectations. And just looking at the images. I guess it won't be a suprise to find that you were modeled with glasses... :p
Good luck with Disney! My last contact with them was back through USAnimation. There is something about that place... It is just always some how fun on which ever branch.
Now that you are in the heart of cartoon... how about a few lessons in speed modeling out a cartoon mini guy?

Well...
I have to shut off for some serious data transferings

Hello PPL,

Finally 3rd time I mange to come up with something.
Not so manny models this week, but the model's that are in, are verry nice and funny. Good Job !

So I try to make an funny and wierd MiniMe, hope it's acceptable with the rules, pls tel me if it is not.

INSTRUCTIONS: Make a clone of U, take off half off the head, put a straw in it, take the metalic "plate" that look like a body and stick the head in it, put some alcoohol over the brain, let the head there for 2 week's for the alcoohol and the brain mix good, and the worm's come out. Keep it at Ice for 120 min till U model other entry. Drink it cold, in time U browse trough the "Halloween Competition".

PS: All objects in the scene where modeled in 120min except the Hair.

To see how I look go here:

urs is super rendered and lighted.u've hidden the ears.cuz ear is not detail modelled, the shadow of smoke is projected on face, and i cannot see the eyes clearly.
the shape of face is perfect done.materials r great too.i liked the eyebrow much,it is realistic.
this is a high poly model that needs much work time this tells that why u have passed the time limit, also moderators cannot enter challenge but it is very good u've done one for here.

ncollings - Welcome to the speed modeling, U come with a GREATE START !!!, verry nice modeling and verry clean, and funny cartoon.

BUT U have some problems:
1) State in the same post, the software U use, other wise U will get desqualified. (But in the same post)
2) I think is a good ideea to post the wire from the body to if U want they cont it in judging. And if U need space to post the body wire, U can ReUpload the image in 800X600 rez, is better for the judging to clear see U'r model because have verry nice expresion. But don't change anything to the model, just to the wire, and state in te "reason for editing" that U not change the model just the wire and eventualy Rezolution.
3) It's a verry nice model and I think U will recive extra credit if U post a real image of U to let the judge to see u manage to make a cartoon that look like U. (This is U'r choise maybe is better to not add a image and hope that judges beleve it's U)

Ok, it's time for me to step in... first off is a nice Welcome to the forums Ncollings! :D It's nice to see new members coming along to join us. Especially in a two week challenge where most of our *ahem* regular members seem to be to scared to participate in! :P

Now as for your entry, the problem is that your entry is incomplete. Since you're stating the time it took to create your body... we need to see it's wireframe in your actual entry. Since we allow 800*600 size images and you're only using 640*480... use the extra space to include the missing wireframe for your entry to be complete. That should have you all settled then. :)

hammering3D
16-11-2005, 03:10 AM
ncollings - Ohh, now I really don't know if that is corect or not to have other links in u'r posts, But definatly they neet the body wire in the same image and not an external link :(.

I am verry tired, and don't think clear right now, ask Marty or Black, before tomorow (Wensday) at 22:00 GMT and U can fix u'r post if it need befor the dead line.

EDIT: Well Marty the Pigeon that I send it with the mesage, have drinking problems :dunno: and stop for a quik drink in his way  ...
