so lets start my friends, show your creation... :shout:.
u can post your Robot till the 18th of this month. after that, voting starts... :)
all the best...cheers....

Nice entries so far, love the bg on ure 2nd one Artecnl......it didn;t influence mine at all
Drawn with ballpoint pen and bg added in photoshop cs. bout 2hrs all up.
Saved as a jpeg low quality(2) and 40% of size, is there any other way to compress the file? cause it makes stuff look crap.
11-12-2005, 06:48 PM
_t3d_ :ye ye please Santa...lol...i have some like ur wish ..i wana "CintiQ"monitor tablet...but i not sure santa can afford it yet:D.............nice robby robby too...

Artecnl: nice second entry friend..i like it more than ur first....:)
Undertow: nice entry friend..nice;)
Saved as a jpeg low quality(2) and 40% of size, is there any other way to compress the file? cause it makes stuff look crap.
I think it looks great even with the compression.
You may already know this, but if you use photoshop's save for web feature - optimize to file size, it generally has better compression quality than trying to input a compression quality by hand.

14-12-2005, 10:40 AM
Hi guys this is my first entry in 3d painting challenge . this is not final work. How is it ? I think this work is not matured work there is a lot to improve.
c and c is most welcome.
Doing in Photo shop
14-12-2005, 10:53 AM
RBL - Nice work keep it up
14-12-2005, 01:01 PM
:smug: Thanks for the comments! Everyone nice job! here are a few comments:
alidanesh - looks like the beginning of quite a nice portfolio there - you really have that concept style down.
RBL - you do really well with entire environments - very dramatic.
artecnl - oh man I was going to draw something like that (third entry) :smug: , but I think I can recycle my idea to make something different - nice execution.
ania - I used to draw thise during lectures - there is way more effort in those ballpoint drawing than people think - I agree with artecnl, but I would like to see that rendered (3D).
Undertow - TOOL rocks! Your drawing is very true their style (videos), also nice drama in your scene. (Have you ever had a chance to see TOOL live?)
artecnl #6: Speed and robot topics? ;P That convination of textures gives an extrange feeling. Define the focal points first.
VelenoSangue #9: The shading is nice, think at the begining of the painting a more agressive pose.
alidanesh #11: I like tha technic of mixed media.
-t3d- #14: Too close to the referenced one. It could be good with more mechanical parts.
Jordan #15: Classic scfi look.
AGMJ #19: Itīs an start.
artecnl #20: Robots with human feelings itīs a succesfully resort, but you need more than a bunch of flowers and flying hearts to make the painting talk about that fully.
-t3d- #22: The main shading looks too plain, like an old game graphic.
Undertow #23: Old school underground look. I donīt catch the idea of that draw at first sight, Itīs a kind of hibrid?
ania #27: The legs looks funny.
Diabolos #28: Now, an anime-like robot "mecha". Interesting head design, it reminds me evangelion nš 01. Keep it up, continue with the rest of the body.
cid228 #30: I think it took too much time but, anyway... I like the little mechanical parts of the head but not its shading. Borders should look too much, Itīs better to use shadows than black borders.
BuffDady81 #31: Ha ha! and the american robot style "transformer" The perspective is very expressive and has a nostangia feeling too.
alidanesh #34: Very flexible bodyparts, it has a cartoonish look. Like a model sheet for an animated production.
artecnl #39:A funny one. It has 3 different perspectives, and it should be 1. Start with lines over a plain bg and define the focal points youīll need. If not, the perspective will not look cool ;P
Milan #40: Alienoid robot. Thinner will look more scary.
artecnl: I tryed more hilights but I looked ugly, not the realistic feel i was looking for. I like it soft by now.
Thanks for the rest of comments.
14-12-2005, 06:02 PM
thanks for the C&C RBL lol :D, maybe the boxes makes this effect where i see i'll try to do that better the next one. :D
and about your image, you need a lot of work in your paint to have a realistic feel (i don't see it :dunno: ), its very plain, i dont see much originality in this work. you can do it better.
14-12-2005, 06:46 PM
Are you aloud to take parts of photos and use them in your paintings???? I see that RBL has used the pylon image in his. I can tell because the perspective and rotation of them does not change as they go off in the distance. and he's used the sky image or part of it. This is a painting competition, you should have to paint details in yourself with out copy and pasting bits from photos..!!
14-12-2005, 08:20 PM
So... Many... Entries... - Where to begin???
Milan - good start, just keep practicing...
artecnl - Nice group of images, I like yourstyle of drawing.
RBL - Nice scene, good as a concept art piece or storyboard.
Alidanesh - Nice image, I like the looseness of your drawings
Cid228 - Interesting design
Diabolis - Like the shading
Ania - Good idea, works well with the ballpoint.
Undertow - Slightly disturbing - which is a good thing...
Great bits of work all round! And thanks for all your good comments...
14-12-2005, 08:28 PM
Hello to everyone, as i have said before such a variety of styles here, everyone a masterpiece in its own.
I see there are a lot of new faces joining, a big welcom to you all:) keep them coming in, and dont feel ashamed (ADMJ) they are good. we all start off small, then slowly work ourselves up in confidence.
RBL: Thank you for the compliment in saying its "too close to the reference", in this i tried to get it to look the same, but found trying to get the opacity of the head and body a lot harder than i thought it would be.
In my second i was trying to attain a metal look, which didnt come out to bad considering im still learning what this program has to offer.
14-12-2005, 09:51 PM
rbL : NICE ONE FRIEND ...u DID IT NICE AND CONSUMED THE IMAGES IN UR WORKS NICLY..TNX FOR THE COMMENT ...SOME HOW I THINK IF U HAVE USED SOME MORE TEXTURE ON UR WORK AND ADD SOME PERSPECTIVE OF COLOR(ATMOSPHIRE)IN ITLL BE MORE NICE...AND ABOUT THE REALISTIC FEELING THAT U WANTED TO ACHIVE I THINK ITS HARD TO GET IT IN SPEED PAINTIND ONES..ITLL NEED TONES OF TIME...:)
Artecnl: woho..nice one ..nice use of texture and ye it has some feeling of 3d work...;)
Buffdady : tnx for ur comment friend....good luck:)
14-12-2005, 09:57 PM
thanks 4 the comments buffdady
alidanesh you too my friend, yes the :D 3d speed model challenges have a great influence o me :D by the way im doing an entry to the fitness challenge i hope i have luck.

:halo: :o
16-12-2005, 03:54 AM
Another before-going-to-bed painting =D
This one was made in about 20 minutes, really quick (and simple) when ya know just what to do. Wanted to do some more small adjustements but skipped em for the gain of time instead ...
Unfortunatley the quality of the jpg isnīt what it should be, had to draw it down quite a bit to get it below 100k =/...
Hope u like this one !
16-12-2005, 07:42 AM
Hi againn_n , i do this in a little time, is very simple. :smug: :halo:
16-12-2005, 07:50 AM

well very nice contest :D a lot of works this week.
16-12-2005, 12:22 PM
did this in about 30 mins
17-12-2005, 01:39 AM
here is my entery...hope you like it
and here is some times and info:
done in photoshop cs2, painter classic, drawing and painting cca 2 hours, post work in photoshop about 15 minutes
17-12-2005, 06:09 PM
Now u have to tell me if i post to many !?!
This one was made in about 2h 30min, very sloppy and the shading and colours could use a lookover ..but since itīs all about the time versus quality (if i got it right),
i found this to be good enough.
Maybe more of a cyborg than a robot ...(?)
Hope u like it ! =D
18-12-2005, 09:42 AM

hello everyone. as per the Rules, i have to announce RBL's "Seekers", unvotable. i know this happens when one is in a hurry and gets involved in some work so much that forgets about certain things. im sure this happened with RBL, only this time. seems to me he mistakenly took it as a concept sketch, where most of us uses elements from outside.
other points will remain the same as they are.
see u guys.
19-12-2005, 06:26 PM

100% hand made in photoshop, (no references, no filters, no custom brushes) about 4 hours:
Good luck for the next time.
19-12-2005, 10:33 PM
hello RBL..when i first mentioned about the Rule No. 6 after someone mentioned that uve used pictures in your painting, it was not late. u couldve posted a new one at that time or a day after that. there was a lot of time.
u actually sent me a pm very late asking about your entry. instead of that i was expecting a painting from your side to be posted. it was very clear that uve used images and its not according to the rules. it was already very late when u sent me a pm asking me about your post wether it is acceptable or not.
i always try my best to be punctual and like to do things on time properly. i never want anything like this to happen.
