The strange shadows are coming from other lights setup throughout the room.

looks cool, great work for a "newbie"
too much shadows coming from no light sources (in the scene) you gotta get rid of em ;) or make them really soft.

Looks very good for a newbie, the lighting is great. Work on the plant, it looks funny. The chairs around the table are too tall, I don't think a person could fit their legs under that table.
I agree, make the books real, and make them a little more sparse, with some toppled ones or ones laying on their side, maybe some knickknacks or pictures.
Definately the right track, looking amazing.

Raly good work! What material did you plan for the floor? It doesn't look like wooden floor.

this looks good. But there is no feelings here in this picture.. Try to have some colors on your picture.. make it warm or cold something like that:D

The lighting is ok. The furniture selection used is not so good. And there's not much contrast with everything being greenish.
