Hello speed modellers!
I just wanted to say that I'm really enjoying looking at all the models this week, but I'm too busy with finals to make one myself this time :(
Oh well, next time.
BTW, I'm working on an animation for one of my classes using the model I made for the Mini-Me challenge. You can see a still from it in my avatar. I love these challenges and can't wait to get back into it.
I'm still watching though :)

If the square is green u recived good rep, if it's gray U recived reputation point's from somebody that have to less post's and U will not recive any points or not lose any points, people with to less post's can;t afect u;r reputation good or bad.

Well, that was VERY helpful Hammering! I didn't know half of that, thanks!...Too bad about the gray ones...There aren't a lot of active people around with higher post counts than me :( - That's not bragging...kinda sux cuz it makes it harder for me to acheive higher rep points.

Rockstarkate, love the new avatar :)

Inspired, sorry man...got back into America'sArmy and have been playing that nonstop for days and days now :) - I'll try to join next week, but only if you do too.

First I'm glad I help out
Second I'm not glad cause I speek english so bad :(, and is hard for people to undestern me :(.

I mean about that gray square, that if people have litle post's like 15 post or so (but not litle than user they gave rep point's).
I mean that If somebody with 100 posts gave U reputation, is ok it's count
If somebody with 5 post gave U, it not count

that is to prevent people make multiple acounts and give theyrself alot of reputation points, or give alot of bad reputaiton to people that they not like.

But with how post number is big of the user that give reputiton poitnt, U recive more reputation point (stupid me I can't speek :( )

Exemple: if we U and me give to person X reputaiton points. The person X recive more reputation form U because U have more post then me. (Hope I'm not wrong)
Example2: if we U an me recive reputation from person X, we recive same amount of reputation points, even if U have diferent noumber of post's )Hope I'm not wrong)

Hope U all undestern my stupid writing :(

Trix;
Sorry .. It has skipped my attention.
Your post HERE (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showpost.php?p=413239&postcount=204) does not fit within the weeks concept. Thus shall become a disqualification issue.

Please go back and edit your post to a title "Not an entry" so that you and the rest of your weeks entries do not suffer the same faith.
I understand the logic. And see the humour... nor do I mind it staying there. But it is not a qualifying model shall you agree.

Good Luck

Inspired
Man, that's a lot of kissing up your doing. Hmmmm, wonder why?.....hmmmm:)Ooooh you had better get used to it.. you had better get used to it! :crazy:

And one more tip.. do NOT tempt that guy to spamming by threatening with pixel zapazoids what ye ma gigits...
You WILL be sorry.
:)

Inspired;
Well she has not forgotten and you are far from forgiven.
You REALLY don't know how to talk with a lady do you? :D

Hammering3D;
A little adition is that negative reputation points given by people that have not left their names are usually not acounted for.
Even if the negative reputation point has been given by a moderator it is examined by the admins to prevent the silly situations of vendetta.
Soo nothing is certain until they decide it to remain negative.

There is no direct rule that applies to how 'powerfull'er the rep point given is according to the persons own reputation points. But it is in effect on the admins ability to decide on wether the point is deserved or not.

I hope this makes some of it more clearer.

For any further questions there is a few threads dedicated for this to check onto.

Trix;
Do you really want me to explain the reasons? Or are you keeping things funny.
If you are serious... I'll try explaining it better. But I presume it is a bit too obvious.

I am glad you are going with the flow.

The_Bully;
That is sad news to hear.
Even though I doubt that you shall ever completely retire your heart from 3D... I presume your post is to be taken serious.

What ever your reasons are.. we all hope that it is nothing concerning the health of you or yours.

Orkron;
Your link doesn't work out.. So don't know which one there is to compair.. but there is these two that pop up instantly to mind;

Well the link you gave is a dead one .. don't know which one you are talking about...
Here is two;

http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=32530
And the more recent;
http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?t=28956

The other ones that show in the search are in the staff area.

Firstly;
I do not understand the obsession on the rep points.
To be very "blunt"... I get a negative reputation point every week!
And well thats just about all it is to me...some guy that doesn't "approve" that particular post.
Thats great to know... (Unfortunately the names are rarely given)... And thats it!
And not really do I get any positive ones for the help and advices I give out in this and other threads.

But you know what.. it doesn't really stop me from supporting or giving help.. nor "upsetting" people when I know they are doing something wrong.

I sincerely hope that you guys do not go around judging whats good or wrong according to reputation points you may get or not... Since I really presume that the majority of you is really passed such popularity nonscence. (Yes that is my personal view of these silly rep points)

Secondly;
Since day one even us moderators have never been given clear enough an idea onhow they have decided to make use of the reputation points. Each time something goes diffrent in the official explanations.

If it means so much to you it would be so much healthier to message one of the admins and ask for guidence. It is most likely that they shall give the most correct of answers.

Hope that this helps;

Not a big deal, just curious. I'm quenched at this point :)

Okay-

Last entry from me this week. If the picture isn't obvious, it's a treadmill.
Done all in Rhino again, thus it is grey once more. ( Have I ever mentioned
I really dislike Flamingo as a renderer ? )

This one I had to do twice to get it under the time limit. First time around I didn't line everything up and it quickly snowballed when I started mirroring things. That and a boolean went evil on me and was taking FOREVER to compute. *could almost see the smoke coming off the laptop*

Pretty cool to see all the entries again this week. I figure a tough one is on the way once more to allow the judges to catch up :)

Sorry, have to inform you that this does not fit the topic. :hurt:

In general we are asking you to model out tools and equipment used in fitness-trainings or for working-out.
As mentioned from the first page in the rules section.

Please edit this post as a non-entry.

Thankyou

I though that if it was suitable to be seen in a all ages rated movie like Austin Powers, it would be suitable for being seen here. My mistake....

If you go with the definition of fitness....

well, Why would someone want to have big muscles? Would it be indecent to get big muscles to please the ladies? to look your best? To be the best you can be?

Well I'm sorry if it shocked you, won't happen again. next time I'll just model same thing as everyone.... Thank you.

(No harsh feelings, really)

v@la - Like the realism and especially the material of the weights, looks just like the ones i have at home (not that i use them) Can i ask, are the words on the wieghts seperate objects?

Wow, just noticed the thread detail in the bolts for the end as well. nice.

v@la
14-12-2005, 05:21 PM
Hey bentura: Thank you :)

And, yes! The text is seperate objects. I was planing on using a displacement for the text so that it would be the same object as the rest, but i thaught the resault was ok. Thats why i didnt change it!.. and hey, almost fooled you ;)

The difference is in the detail - that goes for all.

Garner
14-12-2005, 05:42 PM
okay long post coming.... i have been through all of the post and i am only going to comment on the few i think stand out to me, that is in my opinion and not to be taken as anyone elses okay so no offenence if i dont comment on yours

Hammering 3D #1 entry, i think this one is great, not only is it somehting i have never seen before but i just love the use of colour and although fitness machines are not usually reflective you sure have made a nice job. the fact that the reflections are actually blurred aswell is a good touch.

OmegaN #1 love this, the whole scene is just so real cant really say why i think alot of it is the lighting is just dead on. and that is some nice chrome material.

Noxx#1 the first to do this type of dumbell and what a job the render is superb, the materials in there are just amazingly real, one thing i will say is you need to add in what software you used, i would hate to see it disqualified.

Yedan#2 using a clear material to show just how much of the inside was modelled is a little bit of genius good work there buddie.

Iain#1 that punch bag rendering is awsome, it is beyond realism, i almost thought that was the refrence picture you used i love the fact there is even the joining seam on the support for the rings. niceone

Justo#1 great dumbells the materials are great and really give the weights a plastic coated look. and as usual good clean modelling.
that lower abs and tri's gym is great and yeah thats how i model mostly the whole thing together, then if i have to break it up i do so later for mapping and such, well i say the whole thing i will do one side then mirror refrence it the less needed to be modelled the better for these challenges.

Diabolos#1 stepper looks awsome, you say you didnt get time to finish it shame cos what there is is just great, the whole rendered scenes lighting really works.

Oto#3 i like this one most, not sure why it just speaks to me more than the others, the only thing i will say is that the wireframes on your posts seem quite small and its a shame cause i would love to glimps at them a bit more to see how you manage such good models.

R3D i just always seem to like your renders, in all the challenges one thing that stands out is your ability to create a real life scene with just about anything, the perspective you get from your camera is inspiring

betasoft that bike is just awsome, i dont think i would want to try it mind but it looks photorealistic, great moddeling.

V@la not only do you give us the invaluable information about the spacing tool but you drop that bomb on us too. great moddelling and amazing work on thos textures would love to know what type of material you used for the weights, raytrace etc...

also i want to suggest something to the devs, since it is the model that they are judging i think maybe we should have a rule for the wireframe to take up atleast a third of the image, i may be shooting myself in the foot here but i bring it up cos sometimes the render really does take presidence over the model and being able to see the way people make things is a really big bonus in learning. i'm as quilty as everyone and love to try and make the render as good as possible but in the end we learn more from the wireframe than we do the render. just a suggestion.

prats
14-12-2005, 05:51 PM
well v@la, it was the composition that looked interesting...chains, weights. Moreso the textures...they are so neat...

SubCroC

color choose is excellent.green color i would never think to do it green with the text of trade mark..and the chain is laying through down in a good realism.holding nut's shape i did not like but metallic texturing in all parts including the helix+cylinder is great.shiness is perfect as well.and hmmm....... the software is not written there.
shadows plus the ground by the camera angle is the most liked condition.
and totally very good work.

Black
14-12-2005, 06:21 PM
Garner;
It is a good point...
And actually a subject that we have been thinking of but are still not sure if we should apply or not.

Before the competitions had demanded a clay render... shall the entry be textured. That faded away and the wireframe came to place.
There are some changes in plan to come for the competitions. And this matter shall be discussed thoroughly.

But for now we are going to hope that people show the care to not make mini-wires (By knowing that the entry will not get far in the judgings).

Ian: The punshing bag is one of my favorites, but there are 2 things i would like to comment. Nr1. U shouldt use a totaly white background. It makes the shape of the bag disappear. Nr2. I think it would be better with just a bit thicker chains. But NICE work :)

I'm new here so I don't want to sound smattered (I hope that's the right word in english :hmm: ) but, have you ever thought about the chance to let every user post 2 pictures of the same model, 1 for the actual rendering and 1 for the pure wireframe? I mean, this would be helpful both for judges and for us, who'd have the chance to learn something (since now it's difficult to unscramble those mini-wireframes we post). Anyway these are just my two cents... (and in a terrible english too :P )

Bye,
D3M0NI0

hehe your suggestion wasn't ignored I assure you :) However, by posting double images, you also double the filespace needed to store them.

It's also easier to keep track of them if they are in the same image. Especially considering the modelling commandos in here that are known to post 5/6/7 entries. We have to get you all another hobby :)

While I'm watching the XSI 5.0.1 update download oh-so-slowly ( frustrating when you're capable of 1MB/sec down and am pulling at 130k/sec ) I'm trying to put together my own standards for how big the wireframe should be vs the final rendered image.

I fully agree the wireframe should be the bigger of the two, but I'm trying to find a happy medium so the wire can be easily looked at and judged while the render stays bigger than a postage stamp :)

betasoft: your last entry nice one, I wanted to do those dumbles but guess what, time is over :smug:

H2O: Really nice model man and quite realstic render. For the blue metal have u added the noise to the diffuse map?

eheheh, thanks, it's almost the same as yours. I might make a little tutorial (since this is the week of tutorials :D ) about modeling a hand gripper...for the people who are starting with 3d...

Thanks h2o, i have tried it in maya and somehow i dont seem to get that kind of result.

About my last entry I could not set the scene and texture it properly since there was only few mins left for the challenge. Its TSC-365 Arm Curl Bench model from Tuffstuff. Most of the things box modeled, beveled edges. for the weight started with the tube, extruded faces & booleaned it after smooth thats the reason there is no holes in the wiremesh un-smoothed image. To give the smooth effect for the hole revolved a spline and it quit gives the kind of fillet feel. The adjustable knob is again lofted surface. Torus is my favorite for the bolts.

This week was really great, enjoyed it a lot, learnt a lot too :dance:
