hello there friends.... hope all are doing good... :).

here, i bring the 38th Speed Painting Challenge, starting today and ends on the 26th of January, Thursday.
Subject for this challenge is "Galaxy". there is so much to paint in there, just think of all the stuff that comes in your mind when u read/hear the word Galaxy. u can even paint a spaceship in there, if u like to. i think that would add some drama and movement in there. but its all upto u, whatever u like... :).

so start painting and posting... :shout:.

u can post your artwork till the 26th of this month. after that, voting starts... :).

all the best...cheers....

OK, here we go, challenge #2... I know its old school cliche, forgive me, again.
90 to 100 minutes in CGillust/OC you can see the eventfile by going here >> ""Galaxy"" (http://221.253.137.119/ja/imgDetailFrame.php?imageId=30738&ifileN=masumix_galaxy.jpg)

My wife says that this has very ominous overtones... I agree, just not sure why.

Photoshop 2,5 hours (totally under estimated the work that goes into those space paintings, bu this is my first one - so far)

Oh Man Brownboot! I am used to this (someone with the same idea and posting before I get finished) happening over at speed modeling contest, but I didn't expect it here :smug: . Nice choice of picture format (elongated) it really makes the difference.

Artecnl: Nice kick off image - very colorful and blananced.

Masumix: Nice twist on galaxy - like mother nature for planet earth.

I don't want to start something bad, and please do not get angry with me Brownboot (especially if I am wrong), but is that an 05 as in 2005 in your signature on the lower right side of the picture?

Good stuff from everybody. I'm scrambling around getting my portfolio together for this scholarship competition here at college. The prize is a free class ($2000) so I need to get entered :P. Don't have much left to do, its just a hassle doing it. Mostly remounting stuff and typing a little paper to send along with it.

Hopefully I'll get some time to redo another entry, I have some very good ideas (I heart the space paintin's). Anyway, good work from everybody this round.

artecnl: Thank you for your comment, and wisely spotted regarding me and -r3d-, he is my son and has been giving me lessons in how to use the program more, so yes we are very similar in our work. He has tried to teach me 3D modeling, but thats too much for me to grasp :) so i will stick to painting.
Your 2nd entry is fantastic the explosion has a 3d effect, very realistic, i like it

Had time to work on this (is avoiding working on his speech :P). It's more of what I was going for initially but didn't have time for during my first sitting. Spent another 40 min. on top of the other one, which was mostly figuring out how to get the rays to work...

Not sure which will be my final entry.

Galaxy??????? :lame:

The last Speed Painting Challenges themes are too boring, that hasnīt originality and doesnīt to suppose a real challenge.

I preffer the written ones of the suggestions thread.

artecnl
24-01-2006, 08:25 PM
rbl what is more original than a galaxy, dont limit the theme, you can put a lot of things on a galaxy, all is in imagination, generalistic topics gives you a chance to be original and paint whatever your imagination see,(spaceships, planets, asteroids, aliens, cities, space fights, etc.) im think is more atractive and isnīt boring as you say. however i hope you can post an image, that will be nice. cheers :)

Brownboot
24-01-2006, 08:46 PM
I think we've had enough general stuff for a while though. I'd like to mix it up more, some specific stuff some general...

Centurion
24-01-2006, 08:50 PM
well i don`t think that " New York 3001 " and " Galaxy " are boring ... as artecnl said only imagination could be a limit :)

25-01-2006, 07:15 PM
Hey brownboot really like the sun in your work! :smug:
BUt how did you get those rays? :dunno: did you use lens flare or another filter or did you do them by hand?

Diabolos
25-01-2006, 10:33 PM
artecnl: thank you for the comment. nice follow up entry - I like your paintings.

-r3d- : thank you also, if I may add - I like the mother and son team - way to go..........

People used to be very lazy in brain usage. The specific themes and new themes used to be more atractive for intrepid and creative minds, because they make you to use your grey matter.

artecnl
26-01-2006, 06:18 AM
rbl you can do the best galaxy or city image if you want, the theme isn't matter, the best illustrations are based on design and composition, not on topics. you can have the best specific concept, but if you arn't able to solve it in images is a lost of time, i think the idea here is PAINTING and have fun, you can use creativity and gray matter ,as you say, drawing anything, general or specific. :lame: ,why dont you use it and draw something nice for this topic.

Brownboot

I think I liked the first one more, but the second one is a more solid piece I think so I'm going with that one for the competition...

Hello everyone!
This is my first post in this forum, and all comments are most welcome.
I need to work on my Photoshop and tablet skills for texturing purposes, and I saw this as the perfect opportunity.
This is my entry for this week, Galaxy Cruising. I initially wanted to do more of a ballroom interior of a space cruise ship (with the same view outside), but after finding a good source picture from a formal wear web site (and going through too many people's cruise photos), I knew I wanted to do more of an intimate railing painting.
Done in Photoshop CS with a Wacom Graphire tablet, took about 6 hours. Since I wanted to practice my digital painting skills, I tried to keep the filter use to a minimum.
Thanks for taking a look at it, I enjoyed viewing everyone else's entries so far. :)
