Hi all
My apologies if this is in the wrong section, I didnt want to post in the recruitment areas, as its not really a recruitment but a notification to all the artists out there.
If you live in
-Ireland
-Scotland
-N. Ireland
and are currently attending a 3rd level college. Then there is a competition running that you should consider.
More info on the comp is below:
Dare to be Digital is a competition for students at Uni and Art Colleges (under or post grad) to develop a game during their summer break and is based at the University of Abertay Dundee. Students receive help from industry specialists and a project fee of £1700. The games don't have to be first person shoot-em-ups, we're also looking for quirky, innovative, ground breaking games for all platforms. Cool flash games, mobile phone games, game based learning-a diverse range.
Dare to be Digital was established by partners Scottish Enterprise Tayside, Dundee City Council and the University of Abertay Dundee in 2000, when the competition was piloted to students at Abertay.Following the success of the competition among Abertay students, Dare opened its doors to all students in Scottish Universities and Colleges of Art.
It remained so until Dare 2005, when the competition became international. This decision was partly due to the success of the international teams that had taken part in Dare over the years (teams from Malaysia, Japan and Ireland have all taken part in Dare). Teams in Dare 2005 were composed of 4 Scottish teams, 1 Irish team, 1 Northern Ireland team, 1 team from Yorkshire and a team from the Midlands.
Dare has grown from a local competition with local sponsorship to an international competition with multinational sponsorship.
This ethos runs throughout: the students start the competition with ideas and enthusiasm and come out of the competition confident and highly skilled with sought after experience under their belt. Read some of their stories here.
Since I am doing a Masters, and I am completely un-aware as to how long I will be applicable for this competition (Not even sure if I am applicable now but hoping for a response back before the weekend)
In short this competition if the entry is selected, will get the team members supervision and guidance from Abertay University, and has many game development companies giving constructive feedback on the competition.
Anyway I am looking for 3 members for this. You must be in college in either Ireland, Northern Ireland or Scotland. You must also be available during the Summer if we get selected, you must be able to dedicate alot of time to the project.
Given that this will probably be my last year to enter this, I thought I would give it a stab. I am a programmer that has been developing for many years at this point. Many will know me from developing http://www.1944game.com, I also work fulltime as a programmer.
I currently have one other programmer and I am looking for 3 artists who would be interested in talking over concepts with me, for potential entry into this competition in April.
I am looking for:
1. Modeller
2. Animator
3. Texture Artist
Obviously any skill level is acceptable as the point of this comp is to learn and get guidance and entry into the games industry.
What would I bring to the competition, well my skill as a programmer, designer and manager is one. Not to mention my back catalogue of models, textures, animations and applications. On top of this I also have fully licenced technology that would shame even the most established game development studio.
If you would be interested please feel free to contact me. If not interested I would encourage you to highly consider this competition during your education as it is a fantastic opportunity and experience.
