Very nice start :)

I like the perspective. Why are there lines missing though?

One crit: this is not really a 'vast Landscape'. And that is what the contest calls for. But other than that, I like it :)

Keep it up..

Josiah

hi mim, this looks nice and can give u a good result, if u handle the coloring part well. some parts do need your attention though, in drawing, agree with cid228 regarding the tower on the rite...:).

josiah, its upto the participants to paint a close up of a castle or inco-operate that with a landscape. ive mentioned this at a couple of places in the challenge thread. topic is Castle...:). so this one is fine as well.

and mim, no worries about your english, its just fine...:).

cheers....

Hi, thanks all for your ccs,

Josiah- thanks, missed lines is because it is just a primary sketch, I correct them in future (if I can!!), and about environment, it is a good idea, may add some parts of a Landscape in future, thanks man, for useful comments.

cid228- thanks, is it skewed yet, I don’t change it but complete these part just, if this seems skewed yet please notice me to corect, thanks again.

waheed nasir-3DT- really thanks man, I totally agree with you, hope that I can correct them in coloring.

And now I think the sketch level is finished almost (+15minutes), I start to primary layer coloring in next step, glad to hear from you again, thanx a lot.

I think the noisy sky takes away from the sketch - better use a gradient. Nice castle concept.

Maybe you could sue this technique for teh sky... http://www.nibbledpencil.com/image.php?image=FINGERSPAINT3.jpg

Hi,

avatar-3DT – thanks, I agree with you about sky, I wouldn’t leave the sky noisy or a simple gradient even, but I put them there in the sketch look just to separate the sky and transfer concept of draw better a bit, again thanks for comments, I hope to hear from you again in coloring mode.

jdgill – WOAH, this link is amazing, man. Really useful, thanks, thanks & thanks a lot for it, CU.

artecnl – Hi friend, so thanks for compliments, I hope hear more from you about critics and comments, oh artrage is really awesome, and maybe I purchase it next month, CU.

Thanks a lot, I think I can’t work on castle today, here is a big traffic of works on the desk, but I search for some free minutes to being color.

As I say before you can post your works by this topic also if you want, don’t hesitate about anything just say your opinion or put your half way works to discuss.

Cheers, mim.Armand :max:

What you think about coloring, what color I use for the roofs or base, I’m not sure about, but I think to color the roofs of purple!? … mmmm… or cyan!?

+ and which software is better for coloring it you think, PS or Painter(Although both are pro, but which you prefer) and why?

Thanks, mim.Armand :max:

Avatar-3DT

I would go with some vermillion (red/orange) on the roofs to emulate the tiles they used back then. Try to think real world terms. Is there a facade on the castle or is the plain stone. If there is a facade, would they have painted it. For exmple your castle has no water drain. That means the walls will be all smudged with vertical lines, more green and dark near the base, more clean under the roofs. Depends a lot on the style you're going with.
As for the software, there is no perfect software. Profesionals use both Painter and Photoshop. In the end its a matter of choice. Choose the one you have more experience with.

Hey Mim,

Are you using Internet Explorer?

If yes then you may have it set to block all pop-ups and not give you any notification!

To Check and change this follow these steps:

Open Internet Explorer

Click 'Tools -> Internet Options -> Privacy (Tab)'

Untick 'Block Pop-ups' (bottom of window)

Test the 'manage attachments' button again....

Let me know if you've any problems or if that works for you.

Sorry maby a bit late.. but where is the rest of the castle? The channel of water around it and the pull-up bridge :)

stephendm
22-02-2006, 11:54 PM
It's only a work in progress by MIM and if there was a pull-up bridge and water channel it would be lower than the part that's visible. (you can see the top of the main entrance)

Go here and you'll see:

Crackerlips- yes, I use IE.6; and about pop-up blocker, I check it and Untick 'Block Pop-ups' but I have still problem, may would try to reinstall windows (anyway it is a gates stuff! That work just if would to work, else it is your problem!:grr:) and hope problem solved:(, anyway so thanks for efforts dear dude:wave:.

Flou- you’re right, but I plane to put it in a compressed forest by tall trees that hide the rest of the castle, and then a big sun on the left and a sunset sky in back, what you think about?:dunno:

Crackerlips- thanks man to reply,:lurve: CU friend.

Now, I’m going off to reinstall windows:xx: :verts:, and then hope can post again:cool:, :lurve: Cu all.

I only painted over a few of your tower just to give you a quick ideea. I desaturated A LOT your image. The sunlight is not that yellow you know. Even with the special kind of sunset is more of a warm goldish light. Also, I would suggest you use some texture brushes for the walls. Hope my input helps.

hmm, I like I like, though I would have sunset theme if the castle was on plain land.. in the forrest.. more like torches and a big moon? ( just a suggestion )

mim: maybe I'm late, but I don't think you have to reinstall windows. You can try to use another webbrowser first.

mim
23-02-2006, 07:47 PM
Avatar-3DT- thanks man you really help me, and please accept my appreciates for efforts to do that nice guide pic, I agree with you and let me say that the original work is not over in color tint like you see, I just increase saturation when I optimize it to web! (I don’t know what?!!!), although I like this specially look or better to say cartoony look colors; I learn many things by your guide pic, also find my mistakes as in lighting and shadows, thanks again for it; about texture brushes, I’m not familiar good to it but in CP but I make a try to that, thanks.

Flou- nice, I try it, thanks for kind words, cya.

Nippur- thanks man, I did reinstall it; but I plane to change my browser as you say; oh man, I see your locomotive project, you are really a strong modeler, Cya.

I upload after a few hours, I am working on a project for my com, now.

Thanks all, mim.Armand. :max:

I'd say it looks alot better desaturated.

Hmmm, I think this new update is quite good, much better looking than the past ones have been(although I just looked a few pages back). I do agree that you've gone overboard on the black. I think instead of black you should be using a medium gradiant of blue over the base wall color. The reason you would use the blue is to simulate the bouncing of light rays off of oxygen particles (this is why the sky is blue). All outside diffuse situations are like this, of course. It also definately wouldn't be as dark as you have it.

Keep going on it!

jdgill
24-02-2006, 02:15 AM
Loosk good...the crit about coloring that I have is that. The black seems extreme also. Is the scene a sunset? What time of day is it? THe sun seems to be on the horizon.

Avatar-3DT
24-02-2006, 02:52 AM
Don't ever use black. Use a darker sample of your base color for the walls. Turboracer is right about the bounce color. You could use that on the darker side as a rim on the roofs and the top places of the battlements. Also, after you finish, on a new layer, with a soft brush set a soft, warm color (a light orange would do good) to simulate distance and the haze in the air. This will help you create depth.

Ok it is my next style I’m going by. Excuse me, but I can’t work on pre style at all, maybe I complete it in future; it really tired me ( no for many time working on, but just I’m not sure what to do and how to do!), anyway hope I reach to deadline by that.
And about new style, must say it is a cartoony one, you see just the step one and castle drawn on it, I draw it in to steps (and tow page) because my scanner is A4, I just paint this one now, but would draw next step in afew hours future ( I work on it same time by other projects in my hand in company!), hope you like it.

Turboracer, jdgill, Avatar-3DT, abbasi, so so thanks for your usfull comments , critics and suggestions, you help me really to advance some steps in my experiences, I really learn from your -& other guys- replies, hope you like this new style and guide me again, soso thanx again.

oh forgot to say it take me about 20 minutes to draw it, and by hand.
