Hi all



Here is my last little project. It is about one of my faouvorite robots: Optimus Prime from the Transformers Gen 1. I have tried to make this robot as I think he would be in the real world. I mean, a true truck. As a true truck he is no clear and his parts as truck are the same that his parts like robot. I like to see it as an old used truck. I would like to thanks Daniel Martinez lara (http:\\www.pepeland.com) his help with the setup and the animation. He is really good at these points and his advices had helped me a lot. I also would like to thank everybody who has seen the job and contributed to make it better. I have linked an animation of the robot in a tipical US street. The city in Matrix Reloaded inspired me to do it this way. There is two files. The big one is in 1024*720 and the small is 720*576. I think it is much better to see the big one. I have linked too some high size renders and some differetns view of both the robot and the truck. I am working in another animation inside an highway with more cars running. I will post it as soon as it is finished. I hope you like it and, as ussual, C&C are welcome!!

Have watched the video now (high res) and I'm doubly impressed now :) Saying that, the way the hands come out of the lights is kinda weird if you are trying to make it "real" because they are too big to come out of the light and there is no space behind them for the hands to be stored, the way I'd have done it probably is to have the hands fold in behind the grill and pivot out when transforming... but I'm not sure how close you were intending to get to how it would work in reality... apart from that, truely amazing work :)

I was thinking about making jetfire, working on drawings and collecting various reference images, but at my pace it would be REALLY slow lol (horrible time and work constraints). Just wondering... how long did you take to make such a wonderful model?

I started working in the model in dicember. I have been workin in it since then. I cannot say a concrete time. Think that I work fulltime in a VFX company and I have very few free time. Some weeks I have 10 hours.. another one I have only 5. Don´t know but I have been working in it since dicember until now. The truck model took me 5 days. I have modeled it slowlly bc I had to take care bc It will be a robot too.

MY GOD!!!!! other than the fact that the colouring of this is different, this could easily be a screenshot from the Live Action / CG movie in development, i reckon if you made the textures the same as optimus prime is with the red cab, but still made it to the level of real world accuracy you've done here, you could quite possibly have the best Transformer Model i have ever ever ever seen!!!!!!! pity there are no screens for the movie yet, wouldn't it be sad if the movie isn't to your standard, this Optimus even beats the dancing robot advert!

This is probably the most impressive non-official piece of 3D work I have ever seen. And it is better than 90% of offical screen footage from major studios. As someone relatively new to 3D your work is both inspiring and daunting. I doubt I'll ever make something as cool as that. 100 stars.

One question though, why did you choose to make the cab white instead of red? Just to make it look a little more realistic? Not really a critique, I'm just wondering. Great job.

I'm very very amazed by this it is incredibly good work.

The only thing I think lets it down is the camerawork, which - don't get me wrong is very impressive how it's so fluid, and the focus/loss of focus makes it look realistic ... I just reckon its a bit much, making it seem like its OVER compensating to add more realism, which actually detracts from the realism!

On closer expection of the vid today i'm very impressed at the few bits of dirt falling from the bumper after it scrapes it on the ground, its extra details like that that make it very impressive for me!

funy, corruptpanda and corruptowl, you guy's brothers? :) so, i just have problems with Hi-Rez version, it download fine, but do not unarchiveing :( i was try do this with default MacOS X Archiveing software and StuffIt 10.0, and nothing, some errors there... but Low-Rez version works fine, download and then unarchiveing... and then was 20 seconds of magic !!! :) good luck.

Ahem, first post and all I've got to say is...

There's a Transformers trilogy (perhaps only two movies, but at least more than one) being produced by Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks and the guy that directed Pearl Harbor (crappy love movie, good fight scenes). :drool:

The first of (hopefully) three Transformers movies is coming out on July 4th, 2007.

Actually, I would like to see it look more like the 20th anniversary Optimus toy...that is closer to what the cartoon looked like. I think that the animation was badarse though, still would like to see it in red at least, and the arms don't look tough like they should.

Still don't take that as a negative really, cause as a fan animation it is top notch!

I have only one comment that me and some friends of mine was wondering about! When Optimus is transforming in you video! Something its not right! When he lifts up ,he stands on his feet, if you understand me? So the weight its not correct, he have no balance at all. But still he manage to go up! And why are you hiding the feets when he stands up!I think that the feets its going through the ground! Or am I wrong?

I dont say this to be cruel. Its possible that I have wrong too.;)

It confuses me how people manage to get such stunning models, and them for them to come alive in the video and look photo realistic. Its just over the top for me :p

The movie in terms of physics is still rather believable anyway. The fact that he wouldn't lose balance since the motors pulling him up would be strong enough to withstand the falling over.

Realistic though can be seen in many ways.

If I wasn't going for a realistic look, I'd still want believable physics to place the viewer into the world.

That said though, the robot does move realistically in my eyes.

The way its been done to look like the camera is focussing on it at the start is great too. The detail in the buildings, etc is spectacular too.

yeha....I think that that is one of the most realistic thing i have ever seen! He has put more than enough time into it and i think there would be no point in adding that extra detail of off balancing as like you sed (i think) and i might have sed....a robot is different and motors arent the same a muscles! so yeha....i think were all on the same boat but looking at it differently..... :) the point is that this piece is amazing and does not need any improvements that i know of and yeah.....adn you hold a strong argument....bout the physics and un realistic look thingy.... :) so yeha..... i think that we have talked about this issue for long enough and coverd all aspects of it! and now i need some sleeeeeeeep!!!!!!!!

By the way Master Blasphemy.. a project with a modern ambulance would be just Jinkies (always did love ratchet on the show.. but hated him & the ironhide toys (screens broke too easy) being as i have worked on ambulances for the last 8 or so years (still doing the 3d tho for kicks & freelance) i garentee no one in my ambulance corp would complain. should paint it with "Metroplex Ambulance " that would just be the best..

Hehe. I never really saw transformers to really know what your going on about, but okay :p They are definietly kewl, but I didn't really know about them until later on in my life (I'm 18 now)

Never the less, its these types of things that pick up the most attention isn't it.

Metal Gear Rex did, and this did. It shows what really gets all those views rattling :p

I just wonder, for this near realistic Optimus Prime, why not use the 20th Anniversary Convoy (Optimus Prime) as a reference model. That 'toy' pretty much has everything, even fold out hands and the deforming abdomen/chest, etc.

If you all are a buncha nerds like me then you realize that the Transformers aer all thru out the timeline in all its diffrent incarnations.. the fact that mars is the first place we have gained "footage" of them is just Par for the course,& plus everyone knows that Transformers are from Cyberton a factory of the long gone now Quintessons (too much to hope for in this movie i know) but to present the Core G1 story is cake.. they fight.. they crash(on earth) we get involved. how can they mess that one up..

Next, martimus is totally correct. I would hate to have my movies on some website, without reference to the fact that I made them, or with my logo cut out ( which is not the case, so far ). Then again, depends on how you look at it. Maybe 3dblasphemy is content to be featured on the Transformers The Movie website, it IS an honor, but there should be a name given at least.

Since they actually CUT OUT the last part of the clip where he had the link to his site I'd be furious... Send them an e-mail with all the paragraphs regarding copyrights and tell them to either include the credits or take it off the site... Stuff like that pisses me off. And this is no glitch, they intentionally cut out the credits... (If I've seen the same video as the rest of you, the zipped one at 70 meg.)

About the model itself. Simply amazing. Lighting and render+ comp. Also great. The animation had a bit too much "handheld"feeling. I got dizzy and the focus was lost. I forgot about the model and started focusing on the cameraman with a fetish for zooming in and out...

Exactly. Damn cheeky if you ask me. Why not leave in the credits? Because the guy obviously wanted peeps to think it was genuine on some level, the word would spread and he'd get more hits.
