hello there friends...:). hope all are doing good.
here, i bring the 43rd Speed Painting Challenge, starts today and ends on the 20th of April, Thursday.
topic for this challenge is "Futuristic Landcape". there is so much to paint in there, in my opinion go for a city scene, that would be more interesting and would give u a lot of stuff to include in there, but its upto u, whatever u like...:).
so lets start. and remember, we can always have other topic choices for future challenges. so be happy...:).
u can post your artwork till the 20th of this month. after that, voting starts.
all the best...cheers...:).
P.S. ill be announcing the results of the previous challenge soon.
nice, lets go to futuristic landscapes guys ;) :D
n good luck to all by new challenge :)

Thanks ximahmoud :) Looking forward to some of your work in this challenge. I really like the topic and would hope to get another one or more done!
It will hurt if I keep my hand moving ;) I'm left-handed and find it quite sore using my tablet without breaks. Man I would give my left arm for a Wacom Cintiq :D ;) :)
Cheers!

Nice work so far guys, good luck with this challenge.
IMO 5+ hours doesn't really constitute a fast painting. I wonder whether this time we should all be aiming for a little more speed.
Can't wait for more :)

Hi all! Great works again in first days of challenge, you’re awesome on work guys! x)
artecnl n cracker works are my favorites so far, I like vidshank #20 also so, and very welcome to Socrattes ;)
hey Derek I need your permission to continue working of one of my sketches! (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showthread.php?p=447983#post447983) Cause I inspired by your idea in pre challenge (a dragon playing a guitar) (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showpost.php?p=447306&postcount=112) then I just add it in a futuristic landscape! (http://forums.3dtotal.com/showpost.php?p=447337&postcount=113) I think I can’t work on your idea before your permission! so please give me it man! :)

Vidshank: I really like where your second picture was going there. Very nice style - will you be working on this one to enter or starting a new one from scratch cos I would love to see that one finished!?
Artecnl: Thanks for the comment. Your picture is pretty excellent. The perspective, scale and colours are all very good. It didn't take you too long to get into the swing of your shiny new tablet clearly :) Nice one dude!
Socrattes: You are very welcome :) :D Your picture is good..... but I feel lacking a bit in perspective somewhat (maybe add more shading would help?) At the same time, not too bad for 20 minutes :) Well done
Mim: Very interesting and comical sketch - looking forward to the finished piece. Thanks for your comment also :)

Hey Al3x: Welcome :) Looking forward to seeing your work (if your painting skills are anything like your 3d modelling skills
we shoud be in for a treat :))
Rusted: Another excellent painting in this challenge. Amazing detail, colour & technique. I really like it a lot. :)
So here's my second painting for this challenge. This has taken me the longest out of any of my paintings so far (about 8hrs in Photoshop with Active XP-Pen Tablet and reference). Once I get going, I just can't seem to stop :) but is still within the time in the rules ;)

Milan: Thanks for the comment :) Looking forward to a pic from you in this challenge.
Vidshank: Not to worry that you aren't doing any more with your other pic, though I liked it very much, but your newest one is very good also :) Most interesting design, concept and choice of colours. I was just looking at it again there and spotted the tiny house on the bottom right :D Very funny :) The six Robo-Buildings (as Mim calls them ;)) are absolutely ENORMOUS in comparison. Well done. Thanks for your kind words also. Glad you like :)
Mim & Asya: Thanks to you both too for your nice comments :)
Asya: I love your picture and it fits in perfectly with this challenge :) The train/locomotive is very nicely rendered (so shiny...I like the front of it the best with the nose & fan part). The buildings are really good also....there's a lot to look at and all so bright. Hope to see more from you :)
Al3x: Very good for a first attempt (despite it not quite being a futuristic Landscape ;)) One small suggestion though.....try lowering the brush width for outlines and the likes (unless thats the look your going for, of course ;)). I quite like the watercolour look effect on the buildings but as mentioned, they're very hard to see. Hope you get another done for us to see :)

I like the colour and style Buffdaddy, is the sky too simple?
Warin
Possibly - But it was a real quick sketch, if a more complex sky was added though it may take away from the foreground which is the main focus for the piece. I prefer my first entry, but its ok!
hi there,
due to this nice topic and a bit of some free time i decided to join this challenge, so here's my entry.
/edit: the big fat building is supposed to be some kind of atmosphere converter, otherwise life would be impossible there :)

Rico - Oooooooh! Very nice. Like the lighting and the sense of perspective. Personally I think it would look better without the sky - just seems like two seperate images, and I think the bottom bit looks best viewed by itself - Great work though!
thx alot buffdady, you pointed out what i suspected, thus i updated my pic. indeed the sky didn't fit somehow, and although there's too much black in it right now, i will keep it as it is. glad u like it, thx for ur comment.

RICO: Every thing is nice, neat and clean... but Buffdady81 is right about sky...I think!
Well keep coming Guy Post more I am About to post my second one it's under finishing hehehe
Rusted: i will keep the sky as it is right now, mostly in black only cut by that ray of light. i feel that something is missing, so i have some ideas but for now it's ok like that. i'm curious about your second entry, i think your first one is pretty cool.
btw BuffDady: your last entry looks very interesting, nice atmosphere, maybe u want to work a bit an that scene? i would love it

Hey all,
You're all probably sick of me and my big list of comments as usual after I haven't visited in a while but you're just gonna have to live with it, I'm afraid ;) :D :) It's kinda the point at the end of the day though isn't it?
Buffdady81 (Post#54): Very nice indeed for such a quick sketch. There's a lot going on there....in the city especially - I like many styles, but in particular, sloppy sketches that leave a lot open for the viewer to decide what's going on. Good job mate.
Rico (Post#57): Hey Rico, welcome! Superb picture. I actually quite like the sky as well as the rest, which is excellent, but a small bit more detail would help as the top and bottom look to be two different styles and contrast! Even continuing the hazey bubble of light a bit higher would probably do it methinks. You've probably already sorted it from what I read! ;) You mightn't have noticed but your pic is remarkably similar to my second entry :) It's amazing how the theme projects similar images on our minds. :)
(Post#61): Very nice monotone image. As I said to Buffdady, I really like sketched paintings that leave a lot to the viewer's imagination. I hope you'll stick around for future challenges....I like your style very much :)
Technographer: Despite the very slight slip up with the bridge support lengths, I think your pic is class :) I especially like the Mig and its thrust interaction with the water. Only thing though as Ximahmoud says, I might layer it with some additional colour...some deep oranges would look well I feel. Stunning work all the same. :)
Visuelle: I've never had the pleasure to see your work before.....nice to see! It's a shame you haven't the time to join in every challenge. Good luck in the Mericas anyway :) Very nice picture - your solid technique gives the feeling of motion and I really love the pastel colours.
Nice one everyone so far :) Hope to see plenty more.

I really appreciate the feedback, guys. That support beam is irritating the hell out of me now, though! ;P Hah, but it's all a learning experience.
arkantos_cg - There's some great atmosphere in this; the people are a wonderful addition.
Rusted - I like the lengthened exposure effect, but the streaks seem a bit blurry - if you notice in photographs using the same method, they are very sharp and 'blown-out' bright. A cool concept, none-the-less. :)
great challenge so far, giving individual perspectives of a futuristic landscape/architecture.
technographer: very good entry with only one missing point: contrast. if u manage to keep the eye interested by involving some contrast this turns out to be a No.1 speed painting entry :)
visuelle: interesting image, nicely done in that short amount of time. i like the "speed" in that picture, as it seems there's some kind of race or chase going on. good!
crackerlips: hehe, thinking about a futuristic landscape makes me always think of a diagonally arranged horizontal line. but the similarity to your second image made me wonder as well, cause i hadn't seen it before. btw, nice work your second entry with interesting ideas of exotic, futuristic architecture. your first one is great in giving a feeling of actually be in that scenery, well done.
as i'm new to digital painting, i get more and more addicted to it, so if it's possible, i will try to stick with these challenges, they are great.
arkantos: nice sketch, very clean with interesting colors, different to other entries. i like it!
rusted: thx. nice second entry, i think those red rays are supposed to be "carlights", streched over time as you can always see on photographs that are shut wit a long shutter time (don't know how to say in english). in that case i would delete those rays in the upper half of the image, as they are not easy to understand as "carlights". the lower half looks good. btw, it's not a good choice to blur anything thats far from the camera, especially when u make a wide-angle-shot. everything should be in focus then, so those blurry buildings in the back makes it look ab bit unreal. anyway, good job doing that with a mouse, although i prefer your first entry :)

Rico: thanx I like your Detailed comments,(it means you have considered the Image, thank you)...Well in the Image, Cars are flying in the air (and cars are Too speedy 'cause they are futuristic)thats why the Upper area is Blurred and those buildings are quit far away from the Location so they are blurred....but Bro actually one thing that you missed noticing is that "The Picture is Taken in MARS, by a Futuristic camera !"..(hehehe) ;)

maybe paint some nebulas/other planets.)
alles in allem: sehr schön! :)
wolfganng: awesome image, congratz. this seems quite professional, very good.
visuelle: business as usual wa? ;P man, ur pics are really great, nice coloring. keep up that good work!
asya: haha, sweeeet. funny idea and well done. that's the most individual of all. gefällt mir gut, v.a. so sauber. scheint als hättest dich in die details verliebt :)

thanks rico =) I loved your entries and the great use of value while still keeping them semi monochromatic. Excellent technique.
Personally I just kinda recently got into digital painting. I used to do a lot of pencil art some time ago, just for fun. But around 5 months ago I started screwing around with painter and photoshop, and after watching some of the Gnomon analog DVDs, which helped me tremendously, I was hooked =)

aaaaand the next one.
i wanted to play with colors and shapes rather than painting
something acurate.
this way the viewer can participate in the painting.
it's not all set and done. i think it's more interesting.
1h in photoshop. 10min with pen on paper.
rico: nice WIP!
(hope the film academy thing works out fine for you)

I'd like to do one tomorrow morning, but it the challenge is going to close before I can post it, I'd rather not attempt it.
Thanks, and great work by everyone so far!

nice work every one .. i was hopeing to join your wonderfull work as i said.. i bought the tablet .. the genius as waheed recommended for me for now.. tell i find the wacom.. but the things didn't work as we planed.. after i plug it and install the driver.. i opened the corel painter.. and what ?? the cursor is not stable .. it's shaking all the time even if i didn't move the stylus atall .. i tried every thing.. different presures.. prush tracking .. nothing hold the cursor from moving.. i closed the painter then opened photoshop.. the same proplem and other problems, it's even shaking while am i opening a folder or choosing a menu or something.. i tried the tablet setting in the control panel.. also nothing .. i didn't know what to do, i became very angry and i almost brake it into pieces but my brother stop me.. after all this waiting it came with a problem .. god i hate that genius... i didn't like it before.. but now i hate it.. any way .. sorry for too much talking and again wonderfull work every one

hi dereksc, from the time of this reply of mine, u have about 8 hours more, just let me know, ill see if i can extend it, but just one day. not more than that. i hope u manage to give us your artwork in that...:).
waheed nasir
20-04-2006, 02:30 PM
ximahmoud, i know what u mean and what i know, that this happens due to some electircal disturbance in that particular area, earthing prob. do one thing, just hold the tablet in you left hand and use the pen, see if the cursor stays. coz we at work faced that and just to check, when we did this, the cursor stopped shaking. i think wacom would behave similarly in this situation, but im not sure. u have to see it. try it somewhere else. what i noticed, is that this has nothing to do with the tablet. tablet is fine. i hope u get the solution...:).
cheers.

Hey All,
Excellent work once again. Nice to see some new faces (new to me anyway...not necessarily to the site)
Artecnl: Like the new Avatar :)
Ximahmoud: Sent you a PM - possibly the solution to your tablet problem....let me know how you get on.
So busy lately so haven't been in much but should be back soon (for the voting and the next challenge). Ordered me an Intuos 3 9X12 tablet which I should have in a day or two so I'm absolutely dying to get back into doing more painting :) YIPPPPEEE! New toy!!

My futuristic landscape.
Done in about 2 hours with Photoshop CS (well under my usual time... but I consider this a "you get what you pay for" kind of example).
Really not happy with it, but there it is. Last week was the train, this week is the train wreck. I needed to do something to get back into this anyways.
Everyone has done really really great stuff this week, keep it up!

Well done all anyway :)
